Manchester University Campus - Abandoned 'Toast Rack'

Recently I've been doing more going out and seeing places, doing things that I like etc. About a week ago I came across a post on 28DL about Manchester's 'Toast Rack' and it looked good so I went for a nosey there. I think they call it the toast rack because of the building's shape.

Upon arrival I did a walk around the site as I always do before I go in places like this. I found the main gate wide open with a car and a van parked there. I didn't see anyone so I just walked in and went to the first smaller building which from the content inside seemed to be some kind of fashion building with a big hall (see pictures) and a 2nd floor. Once i'd seen all of that I moved over to the main building.

The first and 2nd floors looked like cooking floors. Whisks and bowls pretty much covered the floor. This was the point where I could hear builders somewhere in the building but I never saw them until the very end of my explore (I'll get to that soon). As I kept going up each floor, the rooms got smaller obviously due to the building's shape. I finally managed to get to the roof and could see for literally miles but typical me got too excited and didn't get a photo.

The last place to go was the circular building (see photos) so I made me descent and headed towards it. Unfortunatley, the building was completely hollow, nothing but a structure remained so I decided to finally leave the place.

Since I had already seen everything I decided to leave through the main gate again where a builder was stood so I approached him. He told me the usual that I wasn't supposed to be there and asked how I got in. I pointed to the main gate and he escorted me out telling me that he doesn't mind people who are just there to have a look but his boss doesn't see it that way. While out of the site we had a chat about the place and he told me that they were having problems with kids coming in and smashing everything up which I had noticed while walking through the buildings, they were a mess. He also told me that they're making the main building into apartments and the circular building will be a gym. He seemed to be a decent bloke and we ended up having a good 30 minute chat.

After that I left... That's about it really. Overall a very good place to urbex. Since the campus was only abandoned in 2013, the structure was still very well intact and was a very interesting place to visit.

P.S - I know the image quality sucks. They were taken on mobile. I'm not a photographer.

I'm getting closer and closer... But my dream still feels like it's miles away.

This is neat, I prefer images of much longer abandoned properties but your story with it makes it pretty great. You always find pretty cool places.

28dayslater forums. They have a cool widget implemented that uses google maps and pinpoints all the reported locations in the UK.

I always like to share my experiences at these places as well as the place itself. I feel it adds a nice story and more content to the thread. I get what you mean though, I love the old places too despite the structure risks. They're the reason I'm part of the 'through-the-ceiling family' lol. Ever fell through a floor before? It hurts haha

They all look interesting as usual, my favorite is the one from on top of the building overlooking everything.

Looking forward to the next batch!

This was something quite engrossing to look at for once a changer to my ending day.

I will mainly say that I do like the fifth one and I will defiantly be looking forward to seeing the next journey that you are planning to take us all on.

I have plans to go to more places but I won't make this section a clusterfuck with my weird explorations. I'll post more over time.

Funny thing is that picture isn't from the roof. I was about 3/4 of the way up the building when I took that. It's a very big building lol.
