Who had an interview or were able to negotiate through a form of contract on how much you are suppose to earn? And how much did you guys signed for the specific job you applied for?

I had my first job as a Content Designer for a fixed salary for only 168$ for a part time job, and as for my second job I'm still at the process of negotiating the contract as a starting salary of 297-317 as a Search Engine Optimization Specialist / Search Engine Marketer.

This is the first I've ever had a job where I'm being questioned on how much I'm anticipating or expecting to get paid. The pressure is really tough :glare:

How did you go with it? There are jobs also though that has fixed salaries but has good commissions also.

297 - 317 per day, month, year, what is it?

I've had a negotiating about a company that contacted me to work for them. Eventually I backed off since they didn't want to pay at least what I earn right now.

At my current job I got asked what I expected when I applied. I told them I wanted a competitive salary. Eventually we agree'd I get a little less and while I develop myself I will earn more. Right now I'm a little above competitive, which is great.

I think you should take a look at what the average salary is for someone with your experience in the business which you are in and negotiate about it if you think you like it. I'm not sure what the standards are in your country, but I made sure there is a chance for me to develop myself and see that in my salary. I think that's extremely important.

I've always seen that question as a psychological test, in several aspects, it mostly depends on the essence of what/who you will be working for; it evaluates your character.

1) If you ask for too much, you might seem arrogant or confident:
1.1) You overrate yourself and you're worthless - you will be rejected;
1.2) You are aware of your skills and you will rapidly ascend - you're hired and you will rise quickly.

2) If you ask for a low amount, you will be humble but you might seem weak:
2.1) You underrate yourself and you will be given more opportunities to build your self-esteem - you're hired with respect earned;
2.2) You will show weakness and low expectancy to a promotion - you're hired, but you won't go far.

3) If you ask for the "acceptable", you will be fair and square, yet you will show competitive spirit:
3.1) You will be the ideal worker, always paid the same (or lower), doesn't complain - you're hired for a lifetime;
3.2) You might want a higher wage, you may even start an union and ask more money for everyone - you're rejected, or hired for 3 months with a renewable contract, and kept under close surveillance.

These are just a few interpretations and options I could single out from a recruiter's perspective, they're probing you, so probe them too; this not only varies from one employer to another, but also from a specific recruiter to another.
