MS2 Private Server "Update Required" Help

Me and a friend are trying to make a friends only private server, but we're having an issue.

Our client (v114) is connecting with the server (sending a handshake to the client), but the client is throwing the error "Update required. Please download the new version." before the client closes. No error code/numbers show up, though. We tried connecting with different versions of the client (except for the most recent one on steam, which doesn't seem to work with Orion2) but it didn't work.

We're guessing the issue is that the server and client versions don't match up, but is there a way to check out the specifics/find out what server version the client will respond to properly? or is something else going on? Any help is welcome and info can be given on request if more context is required.

where did you get the server

We found a basis for a server around the internet and are working off of it, we're not exactly sure if it works entirely, we were planning to work off of it as a base and fix issues as they came up. Unfortunately, this seems to be the first issue, so we have no clue how well the server files even work yet..
