Free MMO Server Section Rules, Guidelines and Information

Please note that these are subject to change without prior notice, you're responsible to keep yourself updated regarding, unless you want to end up being infraction banned.

Please also note that the RaGEZONE forum rules still applies in this section, you'll find those here: Forum Rules - RaGEZONE forums

General Section Rules - These rules applies to the general section, as well as all sub-sections

1. Tags
We require all threads in the main section and upcoming section to be tagged with correct format, and correct game tag. The tag should display what game the thread is advertising for, not the name of your server.
Examples: [Cabal], [Silkroad], [Vindictus], [Lineage 2], [Pokemon], ...
Sub Sections: Threads posted in sub-sections (Mu Online, Habbo, ...) other than the Upcoming Servers sub-section should not be tagged.

2. Necroposting
Do not necro-post, or revive old threads. Threads with dead servers does not need to be brought back up to page 1. If you have questions regarding an old thread, you simply contact the original poster, or report the server in the "Report Dead Servers" sticky. We can't always guarantee the server is still alive, even when displayed in these sections.

3. Criticism
Constructive criticism is fully allowed, but to a certain extent. Flame wars, insults and troll posts will not be tolerated and will result in immediate infraction. There's a difference between sabotaging an advertisement and giving constructive criticism on how to improve a server.

4. Advertisements only
Threads should only be made for the purpose of advertisement. Recruitment, development, and help threads will be deleted immediately. If you're looking to recruit a team, use the recruitment section located here: http://forum.ragezone.com/f206/

5. Community networks and services
We don't allow advertisement for community networks and services. All advertisement posted here must be related to MMO AND/OR MMORPG servers, any non-affiliated advertisement will be deleted, and the creator will receive an infraction for not coping with this rule.

6. Who can advertise?
The server owners or administrators are the only ones allowed to create the advertisement thread. This should not be done by Game Masters, Supporters, Members, Sponsors or anyone else.

7. One advertisement per server
You are only allowed to post one single advertisement thread for your server(s), network or website.
Clarification:
  • If you need to change the advertisement content, you can edit your original post.
  • If the change concerns the thread title or if you wish the advertisement to be cleaned, you can request that in the "Request a Clean/Title Change" sticky of the respective section, or by contacting a moderator directly.
  • If you plan to take your server down and reopen it at a later time, please inform a moderator so he/she can move your thread to the upcoming section if necessary.
  • If you plan to open a new server, please edit your current advertisement or request it to be removed. This can be done by reporting your post or post in the respective "Report dead servers" sticky.
Do not create a new advertisement thread if you already own one!
Exception: You may create one advertisement thread for each game you're owning. If you just own different servers of the same game, e.g. a high rate and a low rate server, please advertise them in one thread / don't create multiple threads for them.

8. Thread Bumping
Only the original thread creator (= the server owner) is allowed to bump his advertisement. He must allow at least 24 hours to pass between post bumps. Fans, members and server staff are allowed to ask for help, offer help, give feedback and comment for obvious reasons, but not for the single purpose of bumping. Posting updates and announcements also counts towards post bumping. However, replying to users / providing support for them is fine.

9. Announcements / Updates
The original thread creator is the only person allowed to give out announcements on behalf of the server. Server updates, server information, events and status updates should only be given by the original poster. New links, and vital information must also be included to the original post, the actual thread. Members can notify or link to update logs or announcements on the servers website. However, they may not do server announcements for the server in the thread.

10. English only
This is an English forum, and all communication / advertisements have to be written in English. If you're unable to speak English, use a translator and provide the translated text in your post.

11. Links
No direct link to registration, or any other link that should benefit the server and make members do something like surveys, voting, etc. A solid link to a forum, or preferable a website is required. We also strongly recommend that regular users are able to obtain information and view forums without having to register.

12. Closing advertisements / servers
Instead of editing your ad into "closed" or something similar, you have to either post in the corresponding subsection's "Report dead servers" thread or use the report function. Failure to do so will result in an infraction.

13. Advertising on alt accounts
Do not sign up or use new accounts to create or push your advertisement(s). Your main account is the only one eligible for creating an advertisement thread.
Using an alt account to promote or bump your thread will result in the removal of the thread and a permanent ban for the alt account. Repeated offenders will also face a temporary or permanent ban on their main accounts. On top of that the server will be restricted from being advertised for 1 week.

Advertisement requirements - The following information is required for absolutely all advertisement threads.

Thread title:
  • The thread title must include the name of the server/network.
  • The game tag must be included in the thread title. Follow the format above.
  • The server's language and hosting location have to be mentioned in the title if they're non-english. You can use short tags for that, e.g. [NA], [SEA], [EU], [RO], [VN]
  • If any third party program is required for users to connect such as Hamachi, this must be mentioned in the thread title.

Examples of good thread titles:
RageZone Flyff Exp 200x | Drop 300x | Penya 200x | Custom Maps[PvP][v20]
Rage Hotel 20 000 coins daily | 100 active members | New rooms | Unique furniture | Hamachi
Great MU | Custom Feature XY | Exp 9999x | Drop 500x | [v97d] [PvP] [NA]

Server Rates (This applies for games where these options are changeable)
  • Xp Rate:
  • Drop Rate:
  • Currency Rate:

Server Specifications (required)
  • Hosting Location (where the physical server is hosted)
  • Server Language (if non-english)

Screenshots
  • Provide at least 1 screenshot.
  • Screenshots MUST be of in-game content (screenshots of your logo, webpage or banner are not sufficient)
  • Screenshots MUST be embedded (That means that they should be visible in the thread. Links are not acceptable)
  • Screenshot MUST contain an admin character displaying the message: Hello RaGEZONE!
  • Posting a video is fine, but it MUST be accompanied by screenshots. A video on its own is not sufficient.

Links:
  • You must provide link to an active and working website. Direct links to downloads, register and so on is not sufficient.
  • Adding links to other essential links such as FAQ, Forum and so on are a bonus, and a great advantage.

Other essential information:
  • You should be as descriptive as possible. Include features, specialties, unique systems, custom maps and so on. The more you add, the more likely people are to get interested in your server and start playing. You should also try to describe your server best possible, the purpose of the server, and what makes it so unique compare to other servers.
  • Remember that you're not limited to just 1 screenshot. Again, the more, the better. Videos are also a huge bonus.
  • Make an effort to your thread, it will pay off in player count.

Upcoming Servers Rules - This section has its own rules due to conflict with the regular rules as the server is still under development and not yet active. If you're posting in the Upcoming Servers section, use the following rules, as well as the General Free MMO Server section rules & the General Forum Rules.

  • Use tags
    • This one is the most important rule as it helps identify which game you are promoting, example [MapleStory] Super duper clone server 4.9 or [Travian] x100 rates, automated and stupid.
  • Include a considerable amount of information!
    • What helps identify a legitimate upcoming server to a wasteful thread is one that contains enough information for a user to actually conclude whether or not they want to play! This means screenshots, rates and actual independently coded features that exist! The more = the better! We would recommend you still go through the advertisement requirements above and include as much information as possible based on those requirements.
  • No Dummy Servers
    • Any attempt to dupe users into thinking your server is legitimate when in fact it is a troll job will be met with an account ban and more.

IF YOU SEE ANYONE BREAKING THE RULES ABOVE, FEEL FREE TO LEAVE A REPORT FOR THE MODERATION TEAM TO SEE. THIS CAN BE DONE BY CLICKING THE REPORT ICON IN THE LOW LEFT CORNER OF EVERY POST. LOOK FOR THE FOLLOWING ICON:

Lastly, please use common sense while posting on this forum. I won't be listing out every obvious rule violation in this thread, so think before you act. If you have any further questions or feel that a moderator needs to be contacted, feel free to contact one of us moderators using the private message function.

Any hateful/flame comments being passed off as "constructive feedback" will be deleted and infractions will be handed out. If you don't know the difference between constructive criticism and flaming then don't post at all. We're working hard on dealing with issues like this and we will not tolerate such behaviour.

Best regards,
Free MMO Servers section moderation

Re: [READ] Free MMO Servers Section Rules | 08.03.2015

As of the 24th of June active admins are required to inform the mods if they decide to close their server.

Clarification: Instead of editing your ad into "closed" or something similar, you have to either post in the corresponding subsection's "Report dead servers" thread or personally pm a mod. Failure to do so will result in an infraction.

This rule will be put under General Rules

Rule clarification

Please note that the rule regarding post bumping was clarified in order to make absolutely clear what is to be rated as post bumping and what's not:

Thanks for taking care when posting.

Re: [READ] Free MMO Servers Section Rules | 03.05.2017

Please note that Rule #7 was extended by an exception for people who own different game servers. As of the 3rd of May 2017 those are allowed to create an advertisement thread for each of their games.

Keep in mind that you are still only permitted to advertise here if you're the owner of the game(s) that you wish to advertise!

Exception: You may create one advertisement thread for each game you're owning. If you just own different servers of the same game, e.g. a high rate and a low rate server, please advertise them in one thread / don't create multiple threads for them.

Thanks for taking care~

Re: [READ] Free MMO Servers Section Rules | 08.07.2017

As of 23rd of October, all requests to archive/clean/title change an ad thread or reporting a dead server should be made in their corresponding stickied threads and should not be done through Moderator PMs just so everyone in the Free MMO team is aware of it instead of just one/selected mod/s. :^)

Re: [READ] Free MMO Servers Section Rules | 11.12.2017

As of 12th of December 2017, foreign (non-english) servers have to include information about the server's main language in the post content and title. Furthermore the hosting location (= where the physical server is hosted) has to be specified in the server specifications (inside the post).

Please make sure all new advertisements posted follow these requirements. Existing advertisements not following latest requirements may be updated at any time.

Thread title:
  • The server's language and hosting location have to be mentioned in the title if they're non-english. You can use short tags for that, e.g. [NA], [SEA], [EU], [RO], [VN]

Server Specifications (required)
  • Hosting Location (where the physical server is hosted)
  • Server Language (if non-english)

Re: [READ] Free MMO Servers Section Rules | 18.12.2017

We came to the decision that we do not support nor condone the fake advertising or pushing of advertisements via alt accounts. We're endeavored to provide a platform for fair competition between server's advertisements. Creating fake accounts to boost one's own advertisement does not count as fair play.

We are not very lenient on people guilty of fake boosting advertisements. The punishment for that is:
  • The alt account (ab)used to boost or advertise will be met with a permanent ban
  • The boosted thread (no matter how big) will be removed
  • Repeated offenders will also face a temporary or permanent ban on their main account
  • The server will be restricted from being advertised for 1 week

No worries about randoms spamming your legitimate advertisements though. We're experienced in revealing fake feedback / boosting by the OP him/herself.

Play fair.

There was a minor phrasing change of the screenshot requirement about in-game activity. This requirement was misinterpreted to be about player activity and used as an excuse to not post any screenshots of the advertised server due to a low player count. This, however, wasn't the intention behind this requirement. It basically requires you to show in-game content rather than a banner or logo of your server alone.

Rephrased requirement:
Screenshots MUST be of in-game [STRIKE]activity[/STRIKE] content (screenshots of your logo, webpage or banner are not sufficient)

Basically posting a screenshot of a character standing in the world is enough to comply with this rule. You can do this on a completely empty server. The more screenshots, the better of course.

Hope this clears some confusion.
