So Apple had iPhone and iPad imports to the US banned because of a defeat in the courts (courtesy of Samsung) over a 3G patent, and the Obama administration has stepped in and overridden the decision because it would affect competition in the US economy! Wow!

Apple then accuse Samsung of abusing the patent system and say that the US Govt is "standing up for innovation" (what innovation?). So Apple apparently didn't abuse the patent system to fleece Samsung of $1bn?

The hypocrisy is rife here. The US Govt. ensuring the interests of US companies by completely by-passing the judicial system, making up their own rules. How about that!

Seems like the Obama administration isn't focussing on the things that matter, and make stupid decisions on the things that don't matter.

How doesn't it matter? Banning Apple products will allow other products price to shoot up very high since there is no competition so samsung from selling a phone for 300$ it will be for 500$ or even 600$.

Apple sucks and they are accepting defeat by their rival with this law suits. Apple thinks that people find money on trees so they put a high price just because it is called Apple but Samsung knows what you need and value your money that is the difference. As much as I wish Apple products get banned I still think it is a very big disadvantage for consumers in the market it is banned in.

Not necessarily Repthon. Samsung have loads more competition in the US market from the likes of Nexus, LG, HTC, plus newer Apple products (as the ban affected older models).

I won't tell you that people don't buy those brand of phones because they do but the amount of people are not that high so if I was Samsung LG, HTC and Nexus would not be a competition because I am technologically advanced. Apple is a competition because it has a very high brand loyalty aka Apple fanboys which buy Apple products who are ready to pay anything to own an Apple device.

If the ban is only for older models then my argument is invalid.

Which really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who's followed American news or politics since the 60s.The US patent office in general is a bullshit cash cow for the government, and a convenient way to tweak private industry while still claiming free enterprise, which I guess tickles a lot of Republican dick.
