End of Windows Vista
On April 10 Microsoft Officially ended Windows Vista's support. With this step Microsoft finally ends the support of the so called "Black Sheep".
With the Windows XP it was self explaining why they extended its support , but Windows Vista doesn't need any extended support , and mainly because Microsoft wants all users either to upgrade to 7 or 8.
Apparently 7.66% of people on globe still using Windows Vista , those have 2 choices , either switch back to the old Windows XP , which is still supported for approximately another 800 days , or Update to Windows 7 if you they still want support.
There is a third choice too , however it requires payment.
Let's see what Vista have brought us , and how did it help to develop a better Windows which is 7 and 8
In 2005 Microsoft presented on MGB conference the Windows Longhorn which switched a lot til the end of the 2007
Longhorn concept - YouTube
This was one of the things why users have attacked Microsoft , that it takes too long to develop , and it never even got released.
The reason why it took so long , because developers had to create a brand new kernel for the new windows , and let's all admit creating a kernel is not exactly a child's play.
This was one of the reasons why Windows Vista had compatibility problems with many softwares developed for windows XP , as well many hardware
So how exactly did Windows Vista help?
1. Windows Aero
2. Windows Sidebar
3. New windows explorer
4. Defender
5. Windows Explorer 7
6. Windows Media Player 11
7. More Security
8. Windows Mail
9. Windows Calendar
10. Windows Photos
11. Windows DVD Burner
12. Windows NetMeeting
13. Windows Media Center
14. Windows Games
15. Windows Portable Center
16. Windows Update
17. Windows Parental Control
18. Windows SLideshow
19. Windows Voice Recognition
20. New Fonts
21. Support for touch screens
22. Problem Solving
and might forgot a few but those are the basics that helped and included in windows 8 and 7 too.
Even if Windows Vista was a fail , it was still needed for Microsoft to learn from their mistakes , and make a better OS for us , Windows 7 and 8

Re: End of Windows Vista
how about laptop users ?
my brother owns a laptop.
os: windows vista home premium
i upgrade it couple of months ago to windows 7 home premium also.
but the video card doesn't support aero in short incompatible.
how about that matter.
some laptops are purchased with vista os already installed.
and i think it is the "default" os ?
grrrr! complicated complain

What are you talking about... Brand new laptops have not come pre-installed with Windows Vista for at lest the last 2 years.
As for your brothers laptop, you probably just lacked the correct drivers.

There is nothing wrong with disabling aero.

Re: End of Windows Vista
First, Microsoft develops a new kernel for almost every os release they make.
Second,Vista compability issues is not because they developed a new kernel BUT because they tried to make vista support either software or hardware from the past years or the following, hence the appearence of compability mode.
Third, most of the "features" on this list:
1. Windows Aero
2. Windows Sidebar
3. New windows explorer
4. Defender
5. Windows Explorer 7
6. Windows Media Player 11
7. More Security
8. Windows Mail
9. Windows Calendar
10. Windows Photos
11. Windows DVD Burner
12. Windows NetMeeting
13. Windows Media Center
14. Windows Games
15. Windows Portable Center
16. Windows Update
17. Windows Parental Control
18. Windows SLideshow
19. Windows Voice Recognition
20. New Fonts
21. Support for touch screens
22. Problem Solving
Weren't even introduced with vista. They either appeared later on or get updated from time to time.
And in my opinion aero, the shitty sidebar and a whole lot of shitty "improvements" they did were a mere bunch of resource wasting. Wouldn't even consider it to be helpfull.
Do not trust birds for they will betray you for personal interests.

Re: End of Windows Vista
Vista was horrible. I'm glad they released Win7 so quick.

Re: End of Windows Vista
Does anyone remember when Vista 1st came out and all the big companies switched to it before realising their printers no longer worked :P
I went straight from XP to W7, vista was something I avoided.

You couldn't be more wrong.
They've used the NT kernel for a long time, Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, Server editions etc, are all build on the NT kernel, which originally was made only as a server version. They later released Windows 2000 which was a extremely stable OS aimed at users who wanted more options then the server versions offered, but still didn't have all the crap in it that made Windows 98 reasonably unstable.
With XP they started using the NT kernel for regular consumer versions.
Since then they've always used the NT kernel except for non-PC's. Windows Mobile and Windows Phone both use the CE kernel (although Windows Phone 8 will use the NT kernel) and the Xbox (360) has it's very own build OS, it is said to be build completely from scratch.

Re: End of Windows Vista
Vista solved all the problems when they released service pack 1 (windows 7 was in beta/testing stage)
I used SP1 x64 for 2 years and when win7 was released i tried hard to accept that 7 is better than Vista.
Also all Asus laptops+ATI VGA that came with Vista or Free-OS had problem with video drivers on Win7.
(2006-2007 era )
P.S. Did someone tried to install win7 on an old PC? I tried and is better than XP(faster response time, and loading time...the problem is Video graphics)
PC used:
-Athlon 2500
-256 Ram
-128 Video
All worked faster except games(used Win7 Starter or Home premium)
Also i installed Win XP on a 400 MHz Cpu,64 SDRAM, 4 MB Video, and we had to close explorer to play Heroes III

Those specs aren't even good for modern word processing so it really doesn't matter tbh. If you want good performance on shitty hardware use linux.

Re: End of Windows Vista
The biggest difference in Windows Vista, compared to WIndows Xp - is they were -natively- trying to support 64 bit, with backwards compatability to 32 bit. That, isnt very easy. Especially when you consider how many hardware driver's pretty much ceased to work at the transition.
I tried Windows Vista, but only as a pirated copy on a spare hard drive. I knew it was going to be a failure the minute I installed it and it was hogging 30% of my resources at idle. It didn't matter what was patched, Vista is a resource HOG. I felt bad for all those laptops that came with it pre-installed, and only running 2 gigs of memory, or less. Just booting and idling on it still requires just a hair under a full 2 gigs.
XP had the sweet spot for a long time, and its a good thign that Windows 7 was pushed sooner, rather then later. Vista was a stepping stone, to be sure.. thank god the public responded so badly to it for them to push it aside, and work on the next model.

Maybe they were trying to force people to spend money on higher-spec PC's and miserably failed. :P
tbh I really don't see how M$ thought it was a good idea to release Vista in the state it was in.
