This has been around for a while, quietly in development. Problem here is, graphics card companies make $$ off of the hardware sales. So they won't pick this up off the small development team since it won't make them any money. So pretty much what's going to happen is this will go nowhere due to lack of funding and backing. It's been 4-5 years since it started and it's still not going anywhere good.

It looks GREAT and the idea is amazing, it just lacks the backing.

Looks great but sadly I have to agree with DawsonByrd.

I wonder how all the data is stored. The "unlimited detail" of a real rock can't be saved in plain form and dynamically creating them when needed would make it computationally costly or "not real".

graphic card companies don't need to pick this up.
The gaming companies will, knowing that using this will increase the potential customers because of better graphics and because no graphic card update will be needed no matter how good your grpahics are.

However software alone couldn't make the presentation real, it's most likely a special graphic card

They use a very basic graphics card. BUT it has a lot more RAM. Like 4gigs of ram on the card. Otherwise you'd need a lot in your computer.

Since it's all dynamic in memory it goes off ram afaik.

Sounds too good to be true, I did a little research around the interwebz, apparently it's a scam. I don't know if it's true, we will have to wait and see.

It sure sounds a bit like hoax. My first thought was about storing all that data.

Unlimited detail is just as limited as your hardware. For example think about the positions of these atoms and stuff. Even if it would be compressed to something like a byte per position, it would still take unlimited bytes to store it all.

Also I'd like to point out that if I recall correctly, there are real-time demos with similar graphics quality to the video's.

Simply put: Either they have some epic alien technology or it's hoax.

They call it unlimited detail, but it's of course limited

However there's a system used to deal with technically infinitely large data in finite time, where only what currently matters is rendered, this is possible if the data is stored as whole, uncompressed, in a medium, and then the pieces of data that matter at the moment will be calculated to make it possible to only load the pieces of data that you need thus allowing for example infinitely large images to be displayed in real time, since the amount of pixels you got, set a limit to how much data is actually needed. Using this principle, they could have an infinite amount of points, but only a very limited amount of them is used for rendering at a given moment.

So in short : It's limited by the memory, but not by the processing power of complexity of the models

It's nowhere near epic or alien, if it's real, all it is, is an algorithm that calculates what dots matter at any given moment, quickly

Of course there's a limit to it, but it sure as heck beats the technology we have right now.?

Their older video explained how they accomplish it, they just used really really really advanced math.

Let's say a certain type of atom is used for a rock ok, and even if 20% of htat rock consists of hte same atom it will only load ONE of those atoms into memory or processing and just replicate it. Which saves A LOT of resources instead of loading 200 of the same atom. get it? It uses caching and advanced algorithms to decide what to even load.
