So I've recently been to Italy - in particular Rome and Venice. Whilst there we obviously visited a lot of landmarks and saw some cool works of art. I'm a big fan of work made from the baroque era, so made it a point to visit many sculptures, fountains, basilicas and galleries around both cities. Without a doubt it's some of the most inspiring stuff I've ever seen, especially work by Bernini.
But I digress, as we were walking through the streets of Venice it was common to see people sketching their surroundings and even to see a few painters doing various oil/water pieces. My mind was blown just watching and I was super jelly. I've always wanted to draw like that, yet I've always sucked hard.
My question is; is this a natural gift or can you work at it? I'm beginning to think it's a mix of both; obviously you need to be creative, but can you really go from being bad to very good? If so, how? I know practice makes perfect but surely there are some techniques to help and internet guides which have helped you?
