I just had to set up my server again after my server PC died.

Had all kinds of issues with assigning a static IP address in my LAN so nobody could connect in through the ports that I had forwarded in my router.
Worked just fine over the LAN though.

Turns out I had my DNS server ip wrong so I couldn't get any kind of connection to the outside world from my server PC.

If you need to find your LAN ip and your DNS ip then just open a consol and type in "ipconfig /all"

Note also that if you do not have a static WAN IP address you can set up a free redirect at no-ip.com
They will provide a small piece of software that you can install on your server PC that will automatically sense changes and update your profile.
