Port forwarding tutorial
Before we start:
First of all i would like to say this is only my second tutorial, and im sorry if i made typo's in it, i'am from holland and only 14 years old so i try my best.
Step 1 : Lets open the needed program,
simply follow these steps :
Step 1, open run, and type ''cmd'' ( without '' )
Then afterwards click ok.
Spoiler:
Step 2 : Now your in CMD , its a black box and will look something like this :
Spoiler:
Then type in ''ipconfig'' and hit enter !
Step 3 : A big list of details will open , but we need our ipv4 adress to get to the setup of your router to portforward, that is this litte text :
(Might contain diffrent numbers)
Spoiler:
-If u got your ipv4 adress, were ready to go to the router config!( /setup )
mine is 192.168.1.10, to go to the setup u just have to do the following :
Mine is 192.168.1.10, we change the last number ...thats in my case 10 to 1, ( If your ipv4 adress is diffrent in anyway, just just make sure it looks like this xxx.xxx.x.1 ( x's are numbers ! )
Step 4 : Open your favorite web browser, and surf to your ipv4 adress with a ''1'' at the end! ( i have to go to 192.168.1.1, you might have to go to any other, but dont worry , this will most of the time not be diffrent then .1 )
A window now pops up , asking u to login !, this can be :
User : admin , Pass : admin
User : admin , Pass : adminadmin
User : user , Pass : user
User : admin , Pass : -its also possible that it have no password.
User : user , Pass : Admin
-If its not any of these it probaly has been changed, if it isn't i can't help u.
Step 5 :
Its time to set - it - up ! A home screen pops-up ( mine is realy cheap, you can either have a linksys or so... but most of the time the menu's are called the same )
Lets go to /advanced settings, and then ( some times in between )/ NAT / Virtual Server Setup /
Now simply click ''add'' and ther we go our first step for the port config!
What we have to do here, is simple.. Where it says
Spoiler:
If so , ( something simelar like this... )
u can start simply by entering ports, Then just click go/start/enter and they're portforwarded !
Enjoy, ...oh also
piece of cake?,Dont worry it comes free with this tutorial
Spoiler:
Sorry for :
My typo's
My old router ( acient!!! )
-This is my first full tutorial kinda, so please help me if i missed any steps or so. Please dont hate
Well bye, :) hope i helped u

Is LAN Servers the same?
Im having problems Portforwarding, Uhm i have a Aztech router and i get to the part were you put in the port range's ad then it asks for an ip. Im not sure what Ip i put in? Also would that Ip be used for retro if i was to make a retro??
Id appreciate the help.
Thanks
Alright so i port forwarded and this is how it looks like :
Ive Used the Ipv4 Address for the IP to place when i portforward, witch i found here:
Then i replaced the Ip's in my Setting for my retro with my real ip witch i found on the website (Whatismyip.com).
After i use my Real Ip to connect to my CMS via browser right? But when i do it takes me to my Routers homepage. Im not sure what im doing wrong.
Also i was wondering would it make a difference if my Ip was Static or Dynamic? If so witch one is it supposed to be?
I did, once i put in my Ipv4 Ip it will give me an error about Access Bieng Denied through MySQL. Any solutions?
Hopefully I can add some clarification here... While Portforward.com is a great site it is lacking in some information for CPE's that are out there.(VDSL, fiber and some T1)
First let me make some terms a bit easier. Your IPv4 Address can simply be called your LAN(Local area network) address.
It is an address that can only be seen and pinged from within your network.
The address that is available from wimi.com. Is your public or WAN(wide area network) address....
Now this next part is important especially while you're trying to forward ports. Your computer MUST be given a static IP. (especially if you have multiple PC's in your home connected to your modem/router.)
If you do not setup your PC for static there is a possibility that your changes will not remain "bound" to your PC and therefore that port will no longer be forwarded on your machine.
Now to set a static IP.
As before you're going to go to: Start>Search(or run depending on OS)> "CMD" > inside of the command prompt you are going to type "ipconfig /all" and press enter. (Alternatively you can type Windows key + R and it will open the run dialog)
As before you will see the following:
Spoiler:
Now take note of your LAN address (IPv4,) subnet mask, default gateway, and finally your DNS Server. Write them down or do whatever you need to do to remember them.
Also something to know the Default Gateway, is going to always be the LAN address of your modem or router (which ever device you're connected directly to.)
Next you are going to go to the following location.
Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center>Change Adapter Settings.
Spoiler:
Right click the active connection and select properties.
Spoiler:
Scroll down to "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click properties.
Spoiler:
Click the radio button that says "Use the following IP address."
(The radio button for "Use the following DNS server addresses" should check itself, if it does not check that as well)
Spoiler:
You'll now have the manual entry fields that have opened up. In these fields you will enter the IP address, Subnet mask(90% of the time the subnet will generate itself), and Default gateway you saved from earlier. In the second box you will enter in your Preferred DNS server saved from earlier as well. The alternate is not necessary.
As you can see in the picture, I have put in all the information from my own ipconfig from earlier.
Spoiler:
After you finish up with that hit OK and you should be good to go. When you go to set the forwarding ranges on the modem, or go back to verify them make sure that the static IP you have set for yourself matches the IP what is in the router for the forwarded port.
From here you can actually check whether or not the port has been forwarded correctly by going to canyouseeme.org enter the port to test and it will give you the results.
Finally the you may have been denied access from your sql server because your networking hardware might not accept loopbacks. So just try accessing it through your LAN address (IPv4)
If you have any questions let me know and I can try to help any way I can
@siem for your second ever guide I would say that this is pretty spot on![]()
Nice tutorial this has to be the most detailed pf tut in a while!
Wow i must say this is by far the best Tut on how to make a Static Ip, But i have checked and i have a Static Ip set up already. Im still curios why i can not port forward. For the Ip used to port forward on the "router" Page i use my Static Ip correct? If so what would my Static Ip be? Would it be the Preferred Ip?
Thanks for your help.
Also @ Siem i would add Maestromind's Tut to your thread it is of great help.
Cheers.
+1
Perfect for newcomers.
Thanks, My router is wierd and this came in helpful! :]
