How so? :1:
Last time Disney backed something, it failed! Back in the days of Sony's Beta Max VS VHS. Disney backed Sony and because of it, Beta Max never took off.
Disney denied the right of publishers to put porn on the Beta Max and that's why VHS won. Though this time around Disney tried it but people ignored them.

It doesn't really. Since there are 2 formats out there at the moment.
Though I myself have both and that's why I buy HD movies. And if you don't have an HD TV then it makes no since at all. ;)

TBH I don't see why it's such a big deal, already players that play both disks have been released. This is just going to piss off everyone who already owns a HD-DVD player therefore making companies now selling the disks less money. I bet you can already buy black market disks of either one anyway so it's just fuelling that market.
Those combo drives are a joke. They cost $1200 on average and you can buy two stand alone players for half that cost.

The amount of Blu-Ray users is way to small, if they can't get their userbase up a lot fast, then a new format like the holographic disc could come in before they get the chance to set Blu-Ray as the new standard.
Look at DVDs to be honest. A year and half after their introduction it was a smaller user base then BluRay is after a year and half after their introduction.
And holo disks wont be out for about 7 years in the mainstream and what will they offer? Nothing much else then what current HDDVD's and BluRay Disks offer. Sure more storage but with the current HD resolutions all you need is a good 50gb disk and that's it.

I agree with Gohan, there are only a small of people that own Blu-ray player and hell, it fcking expensive
Not that expensive anymore. They cost $300-400 depending if you can find them on sale and you also get 5 movies with that.
If you want a good high end DVD unconverter you will be spending $250-300 anyways. So spending an extra $100 for a true HD player and you get $150 in movies for free with it anyways.

BluRay does dominate because of the fact that the PS3 is the most sold HD player and biggest studios back BluRay with the exclusion of Universal and Dreamworks.

They will be and they have been. All of their releases up till now have been on all 3 formats: DVD, HDDVD, and BluRay.
Just after June they wont be doing HDDVD no more.

Not really. There are millions of BluRay players out there. Simply because of the fact that there are millions of PS3s out there.
And if you haven't been into an electronic store lately then you wouldn't know that most SDTVs that support digital signals are only about $50-100 lower then a small LCD HDTV. This is for NA that is.
