As title states I'm wondering what countries are the best to host 'illicit' sites kinda like ragezone. I reside in Canada but I don't know anything about our digital laws(i'm assuming they're very similar to teh states). 10 years ago I was under the impression The Netherlands was a good place for this but what's changed since then?

The Netherlands is quite cool, because it has one of the biggest internet exchanges around, AMS-IX. :)

I recommend you stay away from kiddie hosting and hosting advertised on this site (aside from HyperFilter, they are RZ's sponsor). Also, I recommend you setup your own environment on a dedicated server. :p

As for decent hosts; HyperFilter, HostKey, OVH, SimplexWebs.

HostKey, HyperFilter and OVH have some great servers. If you want better DDOS Protection then I'd recommend HyperFilter or HostKey, OVH's isn't the best. Be careful on HostKey though, they use the configuration to jack up the price on their servers.

SimplexWebs offer some excellent web hosting, albeit it's in the UK. There's also CCI Hosting, located in Panama, I can't exactly vouch for them much since I haven't personally used them.

Mental has slowly driven Ragezone from a "private server development" forum to a "game development forum".

The only reason RZ even uses HyperFilter is the DDoS protection. If you've been around for a while, you would know that RZ used to get attacked a lot, and sponsors are hard to get. Just because RZ uses HyperFilter doesn't mean it's any good for you.

Luxembourg is probably the safest place to host delicate content in the EU right now because of it's privacy laws.

I don't remember the DDoS attacks. I'm guessing the pressure from all the companies fell on the site?

I'm just looking for being able to host in a country illicit content. So you recommend Luxembourg? I didn't even know they'd have any webhosts! interesting.

I should check these boards more often... :|

haha... i'm for functionality here. Thanks alot! When I am looking to launch the site I'll use this. Although two questions; Is 500gb bandwidth too minimal?

Secondly, would anyone here know if its safe using google ads as a source of revenue for these illicit sites? I'm not knowledgeable on digital law at all so I wouldn't know. I remember ragezone used to have a ton but it seems like rarely anything now

Google usually bans you within 2 months.

Really? What if I had designed an app that would do the following:

1. User enters input in the format: XXXX name(XXXX represnents four numbers)
2. App returns computed average rating after searching my forumboard

That's it. It wouldn't show anything aside from the computed rating after the user searches it. Would I still be banned from that scenario? Since it is using the ilicit site to search these products I would figure it might.

Sorry i know this is really abstract. Hoping you understand though lol. Just trying to be proactive here and consider every possibility

This will depend on the traffic you're expecting; you can try starting with a low bandwidth, and then upgrade or degrade as you see fit.

If you're using/connecting to an illegal website, then yes, NoBrain is right. Google is way too sensitive with their terms of service. You're better off implementing one of those 'wait 5 seconds' advertisement websites like ad.fly and such on your app; or any other ad service that's not so strict.

As for hosting companies, the ones I've been using in the past few years have already been mentioned: Hostkey and Ovh. The first one doesn't have free DDoS protection though, while Ovh's DDoS protection is completely free. But while Hostkey will allow you to host mostly everything except for child porn, Ovh is also a bit strict with their terms of service, and if they detect any illegal activities, they will either close your contract/service without warning, or they will ask you to cease those illegal activities.

Services like Hyperfilter and/or Incapsula like RZ is using, are mostly recommended for larger scale boards/websites, since some people can get really grudgy and issue some pretty hardcore DDoS attacks.

Damn. I've got the hosting part down, just need to cover bases with ads atm. I was thinking about using Mopub which seems to be widely recommended but again, my app is a little shady. It'll look completely non sensical to someone who doesn't know what it's used for - it's meant to evaluate some products in a local/provincial community. That's why I'm a little worried about how that will look to ad sites. It's just a pain in the butt to research what ad platforms to implement.

I'll look in to ad.fly though, thanks. Hopefully I can configure it to be really lite in nature

Take a look at this list, this is from a credible and safe website that I usually get some tips from:

It's a relatively 'new list' of mobile advertisement networks, and although 4/5 links are already dead, the rest of them may be of some use to you - especially when it comes down to mobile app integration.

Popads is the way to go. 10/10 cancer popunder ads but good money.
Current Balance: $3.41 | Total Payout: $63.11 | Active Websites: 1 out of 1
I got $40-ish in a month. Not a lot of traffic.

Edit: Oh, mobile.
Admob or Vungle.
