Ok, My PC just died (yea, it wont start up until windows load screen).

My PC is aging (6 years old, but imo it was the top notch then, but that was then).
4 months ago my PC had problems remembering time, Akbar, my friend in RC told me it was about the CMOS battery issue. It didn't really matter if my PC could whether or not remember time, its just disturbing.

Yesterday it stopped booting until to windows load screen, actually this week, my PC keeps on rebooting when i pressed the power on it would take me around 7 times to actually "start" it. Now it only reaches the first screen. O_O (the first screen which says stuff in b&w and some logo there).

Ohh yea, when it reboots, it forgets what was the speed setting of the CPU (yea it enters BIOS then F10 exit).

T_T i cant play my regular games anymore. anyone got any idea about the problem?
plus my files are there o_o .... NOOO meh project!

Hmmmm, still i pray it finally is dead, so that i can get a new one XD sooo evil.... XD

Ok so right now i'm teh laptop, although this one is better I prefer PCs.

It does sound like the CMOS battery, and if it keeps forgetting the CPU speed, that's also a battery problem.

You can usually order a new CMOS battery from your manufacturer, and alot of them are made the same.

The battery may have completely died, And that's why your computer won't boot anymore.

Best thing to do would be buy a new tower, I'd say buy a new motherboard but 6 years old....I don't know if you'd be able to find one compatible with your processor.

If all your work is on it, Just take your hard drive out and hook it up into your next tower.
Then you'll have all your data.

The problem with the Cmos battery dieing is that if he does not set the right time in the bios to match the time in the OS it can cause problems. And yeah with the battery dieing it will forget all settings it had changed in the Bios like power settings OC settings the works. The restart thing sounds like a bad HDD/Bad PSU or the cpu is having overheat issues.

No, it will not "forget" the settings, it will wipe all the settings along with the BIOS itself Hence, your motherboard no longer works.

If you suspect it is a issue with the CMOS battery, replace it ASAP or find a job to pay for your new motherboard you'll have to buy.

If I'm correct, your PC still starts, like Rishwin explained the settings are not "forgotten" but they are wipped along with the BIOS.

If could be your CMOS battery; of course, Manufactures used CMOS batters, thus is not reaching your CPU.

That is some basic information.

If all you see, is a blank screen on windows start up, try...

Ctrl + Alt + Del

then run a new task; and enter 'explorer.exe'

I had the same problem with my last computer last year, apparently the power cable or the socket @ cpu to connect to the power cable is at fault for my case.
The reason that cause the reboot was due to power failure and yeah, just like you, I had to keep waiting for it to auto reboot for like 10 times till it to finally startup, and got another auto reboot 10mins-4hours after it startup. lol and yeah, it worsen as days went by.

To check if your prob is the same as mine, simply touch the power cable gently while your comp is running, successfully startup (Suggest you put on rubber glove, incase of electric shock since your comp is already 6 years old)
If reboot occurs immediately after you gently touch, or move the power cable slightly, then it is indeed power failure due to the cable or socket.

Heres my suggestion to you now, get a Harddisk/TD and store all your files you want change a new comp.

What you just explained was not power failure, it was a bad connection.

Which can EASILY be fixed, without getting a new computer.
How?
Get a new PSU.

I tried using my bro's PSU. but it didn't last long, so to me it was the bad connection causing power failure, arh well that was long ago.
