This is a guide for setting up hrace009 vbox and Aringaso vmware release in Oracle Virtualbox. I used vbox v3.1.2 from the hrace release on Windows 7 64bit.
If you chose Aringaso release please continue from Step 8

9) Start vbox
10) Click the "New" button
11) Click next and give your server a name. Changing the OS and version is not important
12) Adjust the memory to half of what you have in your pc (1.5GB or more is recommended). Click next.
13) Copy the vdmk from Aringaso server release to "C:/~your documents~/.VirtualBox/HardDisks". Or put it elsewhere if you want.
14) On vbox "Virtual Hard Disk" page choose "Use existing hard disk" and browse to where the vdmk is.
15) Click next and Finish
Vbox Network Configuration
16) Click the settings button and choose the network settings.
17) From the "attached to:" dropdown box either choose "Host-Only Adapter" or "Brided Adapter". If you wish to play with friends you must choose "Bridged Adapter.
18) Copy and paste the mac address supplied by your release into the "Mac Address:" box.
Fig 1.1 The highlighted areas are what you click and change. This image is for setting up hrace vbox for "Host-Only" If you chose "Host-Only Adapter" Skip to Step 20
Additional Bridged Adapter Configuration
19) In the "Name:" box select your active network adapter (ie the adapter that connects your pc to the network). Please Skip to Step 24
Additional Host-Only Configuration
20) Choose [File>Preferences]
21) Click "Network"
22) If there is not already an adapter there create one by clicking the
button.
23) Click the
button and on the first tab enter your server network details that are provided.
fig 1.2 This shows the "Host-Only" configuration for the hrace release server.
Starting Your Virtual Machine for the first time
24) Click the "Start button on vbox to start your virtual machine
25) Wait a while...
26) When prompted enter the credentials for your server.
hrace release - User:root, Password:hrace009
Aringaso release - User:root, Password:aringaso Note: You will not see any characters or any sign of anything when you type your password. Just type it in carefully and press enter.
Configuring your server network settings Important: This requires you to have knowledge of your network!
27) Type the following
Code:
nano /etc/network/interfaces
You will be presented with a some text representing your network configuration.
28) Edit this to your network config.
Code:
#The primary network interface
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.10 #This is your server IP
netmask 255.255.255.0 #Subnet mask
network 192.168.0.0 #Network
broardcast 192.168.0.255 #Broardcast
gateway 192.168.0.1 #This is your gateway which is your router.
# dns-* options are implemented by the resolvconf package, if installed
dns-nameservers 192.168.0.1 #dns if you have it.
Fig 1.3 This is for the hrace release. The vmware release will differ slightly.
29) Once you have configured the settings press "Ctrl + O" to save the file and press "Ctrl + X" to exit nano.
30) type
Code:
nano /etc/resolv.conf
Code:
nameserver 192.168.0.1
You put your name server in here.
31) Test if you have configured you interfaces properly by running WinSCP. As the host type your server IP and for the user and pass enter your credentials. If you can connect with winSCP from the host pc also try from another pc on the network.
If you can connect with WinSCP then congratulations you have configured the network successfully for local play.
32) Now you must configure the server files to match your IP you specified in your interfaces. Using WinSCP or a linux text editor like nano or vi you need to change all ips except 0.0.0.0 to your ip in the following files.
Online Setup
33) There is a detailed guide and thread on setting up your server for online play here No-ip Guide
34) Once you have lan connection you have internet also if your network is configured so that other local pcs have internet.
35) Remember to forward your ports (29000 for the server and 80 or 8080 for register page).
Starting your Server
36) Start tomcat with the following
Code:
./tomcat_start.sh
37) Goto
You must be registered to see links
38) Start your server and enjoy.
If you have any problems or questions or if I missed something out or should have more detail let me know.
thanks so much for taking your time to make a good guide Drakaer but i guess i am just very unlucky..vmware or vbox still wont connect to the net, cant ping from it or to it, cant use WinSPC with it, nothing internet wise works with it...and im tired of it just want a fricking server open for public(not only me).. is there any way to use aringaso release in a dual boot ubuntu/xp computer? ive tried to make a pw server in dual boot with ubuntu before and it worked but with vmware and vbox it never has and never will.. so please, if there is a way to use aringaso release in a dual boot ubuntu/xp computer let me know. and thanks again

Um this may be a silly a little thing that I forgot but do you have the virtualbox bridged driver enabled on your network adapter?
And yes you should be able to use the aringaso server with a dual boot. The server itself is the /PWServer/ folder. You will however need to get the require libraries and apps for it to work though.

"Host Only" works exactly like the name says. It means that only the host machine can access virtualbox. You wont get any other connection with host only.

um yes its enabled. but now im curious about dual boot o.o how can i make the aringaso vmware virtual disk so that it is only the server folder? I would love to use it in dual boot ubuntu/xp because i know how to make it work in there but i cant find how to convert aringaso's vmware virtual disk into a folder of files, sub folders/sub files, where i can see everything(like most perfect world server releases are)thanks in advance.
i tried the WinImage and when i tried to extract..it wouldnt even do anything.. i also looked for a while and found a VMWare mount program but it doesnt even run -.- so i would love it if you could upload your folder.. when you have the time of course
