this error I am not sure but try these commands:

cd /

yum install unixODBC*

yum install openssl097a db4

cd /root

rpm -Uvh libmng-1.0.8-1.i386.rpm

After you install and configure the server tries to boot again.

It shows root@ because you are logging into the server as root via putty. The cabal user is used by the server not you.

Make sure you are editing and running the right files. Some people who used my v2 files edit and try running from /root/ep2/ which is just the installer (i compressed these files in 2.5 to stop people doing it). Your config files are in /etc/cabal and your scripts for configuring are in /home/cabal/.

If using mssql 2005 make sure it is not installed as a "named instance" (i.e. has a \ in it's service name in the services list in your control panel) and that remote connections are enabled. The mssql guide in my sig explains both.

Can you ping windows from centos? The server won't be able to connect if not.

2000 is actually better but not free which is why most guides refer to 2005. I use both myself.

Check the ip address in /etc/odbc.ini is correct and make sure any firewalls on the windows machine are either off or allowing communication in on port 1433.

centos - 192.168.1.5
windows - 192.168.1.2

but how to test ping the sql to centos ?

"ping 192.168.1.5" from a windows command prompt. You must be able to ping both ways (centos from windows and windows to centos) for the server to be able to work.

If odbc.ini is correct then the only other thing it can be is a firewall. The server is not getting "access denied" or any other type of response from mssql it gets no answer at all as if there is no server on the IP.

If you try connecting to mssql using either CrazyArcad or my GM tools does that work? If it does that rules named instances out and would also make me think it's a firewall.

If the gm tools cannot connect to sql on the local machine then it is sql. If you load query analyser can you log into that? If so what is in the "SQL Server" box and do you enter a username/pass?
