Hi,
Well, Gimp is free and Photoshop is not, and many people seem to have problems with Photoshop so I decided to write a TuT.

What you need.

  1. Gimp. -
  2. .DDS plugin for Gimp. -

Instructions.
  1. Install Gimp.
  2. Unzip the .dds plugin. (dds.exe)
  3. Take dds.exe and place it in this folder C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins
  4. Do not run DDS.EXE
  5. Restart Gimp

Further Note
Make sure, while saving your file after you're done editing, save it with compression mode BC2/DXT3.

You are done. Now you can open, view, edit, save, convert .dds files without needing Photoshop.

Paint.Net is also Free and has a much Better Interface than Gimp.
So i say Paint.net for a free Photoshop alt.
But ... XNView -> Convert to (TGA/PNG (to keep the alpha)).
Also, Gunz will look for file.tga.dds aswell as file.tga.
So saving in DDS isnt realy needed :>

Why the hell do you need even more alternatives to Photoshop?
