In DB a lot of quests, but in game I can't take quest from NPC. NPC says:

A quick noob question, in reading this guide at the top it says.

Linux is just a kernel, and free to use for your own OS. There's several Linux OS's.
Debian is one, Ubuntu, Open-Suse, etc...

| Debian you can find here: Debian -- Getting Debian
It is Linux OS. It replaces Windows. Every linux has port collection, such as PHP, Perl, MySql, Apache, POP3, IMAP...and so on.
In frendly interface of install system select Services and put ticks on WebServer. MySql Database Server, FTP server...

debian is an os, like suse linux, or free bsd, or ubuntu.
all of them are good distros, but for servers i recomend debian.
i can also help setting it up,

| I compiled Ascent on FreeBSD 6.2 :)
Everything fine. And I recomend Freebsd for servers. This OS is bit hard to install and use, but it is better)

well, it has advantages, but i dont recomend it as a game server, debian is more stable, but yea; basically its up to the user ;)

Hello.
Well - I install Debian, configure scripts and even Spora works corectly (i am able to create users in logon.dbf / accounts) ... but : When I try conect Wow to server (ofcurce I change Ip to local server one In realmlist.wtf) i have this message after i put correct login and password : " The information You have entered is not valid. Please check speling of acount name and password. If you need a help in retriving ..... "
I just don't have idea what to now.
BTW. I am a NOOB in Linux / WOW Priv servers - i install linux and whole server thing in just 3 days - not mension Mysql, php, apache and other strange-to-me looking things.

i got a problem here! ;)
i think everything is fine i explain.
I have:
Parsix (debian based distro)
Mysql
Php5
Apache (working good everythin)
I Follow the tutorial (its really great)
i connect fine, i use Vmware for the Parsix, Bridged Network with 2 ip differents, i connect from vista with the 2.1.1 6839 enUS, the client connect ok, but when i create a character simply take me to the main screen, with disconnected message...
if you can help me ;) i appreciate that.

edit: i think i got the latest NCDB d/ling through SVN now

Hey everyone, sorry for being absent the past days, internet problem. @balug18: No, i just recompiled my core, and ill upload it by today. @JedH Well, if i didn't misread it, your char db is out of date. I'm going to update my tutorial, to make it all be up to date. Also, recompile your ascent, the assertion failed CAN, not always, hint to a faultily compiled core. The NCDB Can help, but doesn't always. For the Mailbox insert query, yes it will. @1000igiel That, i really need to still figure out. The problem lies not with the server (or cant anyone log in?) but with your game. Run the repair.exe and try again. Sometimes people say that helps. @Devilx Well, can u post the error that should appear in your server-console? im guessing you need a new character db, mostly thats why the disc happens. Also, no worry about English here. @laubosslink Your sql is out of date, thats why it messes up. It will work after you update it.

Oh, and an announcement, I will be hosting the most up to date sql files, and my core soon.

i kinda figured out my problem, im running xebian (Xbox Debian) and it had 2.4.x Kernel, so i updated to the latest kernel, and theres no errors yet

If there is ipfw - type:

ipfw seems to be for FreeBSD not debian, and i cant find anyway of opening ports in debian
edit: i found the problem, it was all the port changes i did in the .conf files, it seems to be working
but i also dont no how to install the 4156_logon_set_encrypted_passwords.sql

well: basically it means that some other programm is using that port. Thats what it normally means, some people run the server twice by accident.

| installing sql fix:
mysql --user=root --password=your_mysql_pass character < /path/to/your/sql-file/4156_logon_set_encrypted_passwords.sql
In debian must be iptables.
Read: man iptables
and try to understand how to forward ports

Hey guys,
just wondering, has anyone used the latest svn build? I'm wondering if it requires MySQL5 or not, as I really don't want to switch to that.
While building, I get this, which hinted me towards mysql (yes, I have mysql-devel installed): Code: Database/MySQLDatabase.cpp: In member function `virtual bool MySQLDatabase::Initialize(const char*, unsigned int, const char*, const char*, const char*, uint*** uint32)':
