To figure out which client you need for your server, first start your server. Now, open a command prompt (Vista users may need an admin command prompt....) and run "netstat -a" command. You'll see which port your server is listening on in the list.

You can diagnose "connection failed" problems by having your sql server and/or odbc connection(s) write event logs temporarily until the problem is solved. Maybe your account registration script/webpage/hand edit didn't fill in the correct field or gave bad values in accountdb. The logs will show the query and response from the server which will tell you which fields the login request is asking for and from which table. If the logs remain empty, you have connection issues.

Here's another newsflash.. There's nothing to say that different versions of the server all interpret hotuk.ini commands the same way? Don't be afraid to open up the server's .exe in a hex editor and poke around. You may find that one server has "*PK_FIELD (%s)0" while another has "*PK_FIELD (%s) (%s) (%s)0". Maybe the later server allows 3 fields for PKs, or maybe it's still 1 field, but now has a minimum level requirement and level difference for PKs. This is just an example. Just trying to illustrate that experimenting is how you get from being a monkey with a typewriter to being Shakespeare. One of the better parts of the human experience.

Be very careful when poking around your computer's setup. You might accidentally learn something (like always make a backup first). It's been known to be addictive and you may discover that you're a geek.

Thanks much for the guide Sik. But after seeing how you got bombarded with technical questions, I'll be sure to be a 'behind the scenes' contributer. Too many people run for help and haven't even taken the time to learn how their computer, network, operating system, sql server, etc work. Even when a big fat error message whacks'em in the face telling them what the problem is.

Does anybody have 1871 server filed. While looking for it in forum couldnt find it. Then i could finally manage to start server and look if it works.

typezerophoenix, did you input the correct user/pass? The usual login for it is "sa" btw unless you changed yours. Also did you use c8master?

Hey your Guide is really good but i dont understand how i make a character to an admin
can someone explain it to me please

put ur account id under "debug_id" in the hotuk (server side) remove the debug_ip btw.
then when u load the client wif the admin hotuk (windowd) u will know cause wen u log in u will see server messages.
then to get lvl 3 you do "/:adminname(what u set in ur hotuk) gm3pass
for instance if level 3 pass is set to fletcher and "admin name" is set to PT1 then you'd do
/:PT1 fletcher
and u will geta msg saying "gm level 3 activated" :)
