I think it should be made harder for guests to use ragezone but how could MentaL do this?

I mean just register its not hard... :/

I hope you agree with me

No point in making such a big deal of it, users have to Register to view screenies or snippets, and links. and sometimes you're in a hurry as a member, and don't really want to have the hassle of logging in. But i guess, if the majority wants to change the existing settings to No guests, then there we have it, but i find there is no point, but what ever opinions right?

Because most of them are bots. Like, the majority of them are bots and search engine crawlers. Forcing guests to register would make rz lower in search ranking because then search crawlers won't be able to access content.

Its best how it is right now tbh. Already explained why there's no reason to change.

Bots and crawlers are actually in a different forum group as regular guests, and therefor limiting guest access should not screw up the job they are doing right now. Using this as an argument is needless. Still, I must agree its unnecessary to limit guest access. Not just bots, but guests also contribute towards Ragezones hitrating on Google. The more people click links on Ragezone and stay there for a while instead of just going straight back to Google will have a positive effect on the search ranking. As said before, people who do not feel the need to contribute and only register to see one post or download 1 attachment would just clutter the user database. Limiting them has no use for Ragezone nor its staff, but it surely would be a pain in the butt for people who are looking for a quick fix that might be available here. If they want to contribute, they will register anyway.

-1 and here is the reason;
if you will force guests to register there will be too many users without messages and it will not good for database.
Many accounts = many delay i think.

The database is cleaned every 6 months and all zero-posters (members with zero posts) are deleted so their usernames are available again. We did in actuality surpassed the 1 million registered members mark more than a year ago.
There is no need to disrep me i might come across as an idiot sometimes but im a really nice person. I dont get much sleep.

Yea, it's just hard to get to the gooey center when it's encased in a solidified shell of poop.

Off-site links work, and I've suggested that perhaps, they should not. Attachments do not, and there is something with embedded images ... it only partly works.

Anyway, I don't want lurkers to register, generally. Seemingly dead accounts aren't useful, guests are.

I was a guest before I registered, and I'm often a contributor to those "guest" figures since RZ logs me out automatically (more quickly, of late) when I don't post, just read.

The idea is pointless,
The reason is simple when you consider carefully. If you try to force users to register they will simply find an alternative site that will host the same info [RZ is not the only resource site] or they will create a pointless account. Guests already help the community with ad hits.

A lot of guest are also users who get logged out as well, if you think so or not. When i get logged out i only sign in when i'm about to post. So forcing people to sign up/login is idiotic.

But even with the current amount of ads RaGEZONE has, I don't think it's enough to scare a guest into registering an account. I remember when this place was crawling with ads and if you didn't make an account, you'd be driven to insanity by the ads. I didn't leave RaGEZONE because of those ads, I just finally caved in and made an account.

In summary, I think that Dan should put more ads on RaGEZONE for guests, so it would bother them into making an account. But I do agree with Ron in a lot of aspects (I hope I'm not contradicting myself in my own post lol). But I still think it will bring alive the community a little more, it will make people want to register an account, and then when they have an account they will feel inclined to post in some places, which would make the community more lively and active. Just my two cents.

Good! The last thing we want to do is "scare people into registering an account". We love guests and want lots of them. Preferably ones who come back to us time and time again because of the useful resources we have, even in posts, never mind files.

One day, they will come here with a really good question that they can't find answered anywhere. Then they will register an account with us because they can see that we are friendly helpful people who answer such questions well. We don't flood their screen with adverts or force click or force people to register. We're just a bunch of nice, friendly, helpful folk that anyone would be proud to be a member of. :D:

It will make them inclined to post crap making it harder to find the useful resources RaGEZONE hosts just so they can get a high enough post count to spam peoples in-box. They will post and PM with dumb-butt questions they should be posting on the forums, or hassling people to Skype them or Sreencast or some other community destroying nonsense.

Correct, that's why we love guests and hate people who register for the wrong reasons. If you don't want to be here, please don't come. If people want to go "window shopping" that's fine. It's great fun and the prettiest windows encourage people to come in and buy / join in.

Why do liquor stores, porn shops and gambling dens have to black out their windows with advertisements? Why are clothes stores and perfumeries windows filled with exciting things to go and try.

Which would you like RaGEZONE to be? Are we targeting an *exclusive* underground and shady business or are we an open and sharing community with lots of fun things for people to come and try? :?:

If you where MentaL, which would you want to run? Hold on... you are a member, which sort of "community" do you want to be a part of? ??? I know how I would answer. :D:
