Well i have seen that this is kinda big problem in most of the forums.

People see nice release on some game section and downloads it, without supporting the creator of the release and just leaves the thread and continues taking stuff without supporting...

I think that there should be option that you can make thread with download content that can be only downloaded when Someone has liked/commented your post, that way people would release alot more stuff, since they knows that they get support from it.

Here is an preview, because i know that there is alot of ppl in ragezone that wont read long text's and because of that people would miss the purpose of this suggestion:

Thanks for taking your time to read/check this suggestion.

Well usually people are asking for likes in their threads, because then they can see how many ppl does really like the release.

It's annoying in my opinion, when some developers use alot of time when working on some big release and then people just download it and leave the thread without doing anything.

Always when i released something, i wanted to see how many people really liked the post, because then i could see if it's good to keep on doing things like that for the people.

Like if you get just a little amount of likes, you know that people don't really need that kind of releases and if you get alot likes, then you know that you should keep on doing things like that, because people really needs that.

"because then they can see how many ppl does really like the release.", if they're so anxious to know how many people really liked the release, they shall see how many people did use it, and not press a button called like.

I honestly do not know how I feel about the liking option, I really am kinda on the fence about it, but I would like to see something put in that forces people to register before they download or view links.

What annoys me more then anything is to have users add me on MSN and message me over and over again how to fix an error or how to implement something correctly when they aren't even members of Ragezone. If they were a member of the forum they could easily post what their issue is and then others who came across the same issue can also be helped. When I post something here I only expect to help the people here, not the whole world (if you understand what I mean).

On all my releases I have made I never have really cared whether my post was liked or not, in my head I did it for the community, and if the community wants to thank me for it, so be it. Even on that breath, there has to be a line drawn on how generous I feel.

On this image , the author is forcing the user to like it whether he really does or not , just to be able to access the links. You can't FORCE people to like your stuff. Unfortunately on this forum the Like button is auto hiding , and most of people doesn't even know it exists. What MentaL could do is to make it an image button , or something more visible. But no forcing users to like posts.

That's why there is an preview of the release too and people can decide if they like it or not.

And that's why i said like/post, so people could do that people can't download the link if they haven't commented on it.

Then people would spam whole thread of useless things.

Well that's kinda the reason why i like "likeing" more, because if people don't like the post, they can always unlike it after download.

Then it becomes pointless of adding the mod "Like before download" since they can just unlike after downloading. I'm really not against it since I use the current Like feature of the forum to show appreciation on a post.

I don't like it at all. Where's the "dislike" button?

You had one good suggestion which I've made before. Don't allow people to download who haven't even registered. Apparently, it's too difficult to implement, unless you release as an attachment, which is already implemented. (IDK about the rest of you, but most of my releases won't fit in an attachment, many couldn't even go in the downloads section; which is also, I believe, for registered users only)

I would only want to like a release I tried and found helpful. I've downloaded so many that where infected or packaged as .Net assemblies (or ActiveX hosts / COM surrogates etc.) without the requisite dependencies, and the developer (apparently) has no idea what "dependencies" are, much less which ones his / her program needs. (unless, maybe, they are children and elderly people not able to support them self )

The only post I would add to such releases would be "Borked! Fix it, or kindly leave the stage." XD

Additionally, when ever this suggestion has been raised, MentaL has always stated clearly that it is RaGEZONE core tenant to allow free and unrestricted access to all releases. It is actually in our !
Rule 27. said:
Do not post download links that require a survey or advertisement to be viewed before accessing the content, this is strictly forbidden.
That's pretty much what you are insisting they do... fill in a survey (click "like") or make a dumb post. So you want us to implement a rule which enforces that users break our rules?

It's never going to happen. Trust me.

If we could get a [hidden]This release is for RZ members only[/hidden] which would not expand until you sign in... that would be ace. :D:

@Wucas: Why do you think I don't share any contact with RZ users except RZ? :eek:tt1:

Now I'm on staff, sadly 0 post users can hassle me in PMs about releases too. (it's a hard life you know) I typically provide a reasonably "proforma" reply (one I have written so many times, it's almost identical each time) which goes a little like this:-

Thank you for your interest in my release. I am happy to provide support on the public forums. Please make this request in <insert correct sub-forum> so that your question can be searched by others, and my response can help them as well as you.

For the same reason, I will not provide one-time support via <insert rubbish chat / screen share requested>.

Additionally, this will increase your RaGEZONE post count by 1 excellent and worthy post, leading to an outstanding reputation as a fully fledged member of the RaGEZONE community, and entitling you (once you have a few more posts) to PM other regular users regarding matters which may not be of such public interest. (The only reason you can PM me, is because I am a member of staff here, and must be contactable in the event of Account / Login problems)

Welcome to RaGEZONE! I look forward to seeing more of you on the forum,

Users who are clearly struggling with translation issues, I dumb down the language a little, or attempt a translation to their language. But the essence remains the same regardless.

It's harder to get across in chat program, and that's a major reason why I don't give it out all that frequently. (that, and the fact that 13 yo's in West Coast USA get very annoyed when I'm not on-line at what is the middle of my night-time or work day and they are having a heart-failure because their server "dun work riet". Another reason why forum support rox the world. It's always there, the thread of conversation is not lost by logging in and out, and time-zone is largely irrelevant. :thumbup1:

Actually there are several "hide links from un-registered users" plugins for vBulletin. I guess it's just not RaGEZONE's style to do so.

Well, it was after a number of us asked for that feature that RZ stopped allowing attachments without login.

IMS, we mostly agreed that it would be nice to have information available to all, but the downloads only once you sign in... but no authority took it up. (I wasn't on staff then) Couple of months later, attachments blocked till you signed. Maybe the next step just got mislaid? In any case, that's a different "suggestion". As this one stands, I think it has to be a "No. That's not suitable for RaGEZONE."

If it is the case that downloads are unavailable to unregistered users, then I think it would be a good idea to raise the limit to 25mb or so. Also, since downloads log the amount of people who clicked the link, it would appeal to people who wanted to have more satisfaction out of their releases. (They would get to know how many people actually used their product)

Most any host is unlimited nowdays, so having a 25mb limit to downloads is perfectly fine, also WinRAR has the built in ability to make volumes, so if your download was say 100mb, you could just have 4 downloads.

Yea... I don't like to think how that would impact site backups and maintenance.

TBH, I'm struggling with hosts which won't accept uploads over a Gig, and I would expect split archives to become intractable if that became popular.

I do struggle with the limited attachment size, and would love to see it increased. Again, I'm not sure it's practical for MentaL to do that, or what it would take (subscriptions, sponsorship, separate attachment space / DB etc) to make it practical.

There was also a limit on the total space taken by all our attachments across all our posts on the forum. My account bumped up greatly when I went green and I worry what may happen to it should I depart the staff. Perhaps one of you guys can share what sort of limit (if any) is shown on your profiles attachments page these days?

I'd also draw your attention (once again) to the RaGEZONE Download Sections. Not sure if anyone can post there, but the maximum file size is greater, downloads are counted, it's hosted here and if your release is kickass, I can't see many mods refusing to post it there for you.

unlock!

^-- thats all you see on porn forums for instance, people spamming posts to see content in a thread. If users were forced to like a post to see the download then it would give no value to the like system. Don't want your work leeched on RZ? Don't post it. Simple as that.
