Installing programs in Ubuntu I originally used Ubuntu server addition so I had to manually install things like Firefox and and the GUI. Since I had you choose Desktop, all this comes with it. Isn't life grand! Now lets start setting up your new linux operating system to run the server. First we will install MYSQL and set it up. Because of how many commands we will be using, I will type them line by line and after the command you type I will put in () any comments I have about the command. Since commands are case sensative, you will need to type them exact but I will place them in "" to make them easier to decypher. so .. "ps aux | less" (Tell you which processes are running) this means you type ps aux | less and the () tells you what it is doing. This way you are not lost. Remember that this guide is for those who don't know anything about Linux so they can follow. Now that my explanation is complete, lets start setting up Linux to host the server. once your operating system reboots (had to do it twice for me) log in using the password you created. Click on APPLICATIONS, ACCESSORIES, and then TERMINAL. Now the real work begins. Im not even able to get MySQL and i don't understand how to do this... can some one help me please!?
But does your server run, i mean do you get something like
Server Tick [1]
Server TIck [2]
...
???
Because those messages you posted are normal, so if you see
Server Tick [1]
Server TIck [2]
...
everything is alright.

1. the Output PerfOne thing can be fixed, when you change the timezone in ur ubuntu.
Change it to "Antarctika/McMurdo" and it will work normally. You can find those time settings that way: Ubuntu - System - Administration - Time and Date
2. I dont know how to fix the illegal name thing, few ppl already asked about it but i cant help you i never get the message.
Which server files did you use btw?
3. about the .pid files - they will be always created when oyu start the server and you will always have to delete them b4 starting server again.
So there is no way out

I connected to MySQL Server on Ubuntu from Windows 7 successfully !
I keep getting the "aquiring Server IP" message. I have tried everything to try to resolve this issus. I can connect to mysql using navicat just fine with both IP addresses, I can ping both the ip address just fine and I can even create an account using my website using both IP addresses. I cannot use bridged settings since I am connected using wireless (I do not have LAN access since I am in a hotel). Here are my file configurations if anyone sees something that I have missed.
192.168.200.132 is my NAT
192.168.69.69 is my host adapter
