I honestly cannot see how they plan to market this - it requires you to be in a room with clear walls, what of the projector, require 3 or 4 for each wall?
etc.
Seems way too much effort to be mainstream... regardless of it being a pretty cool idea.

Maybe two low res projectros and one hd projector with some sort of moving arm to project higher quality to where you look.

Or it could have some sort of lense which refracts the image onto all the walls. The biggest issue tends to be the brightness and res, if you want a decent projector it will cost a fair amount.
But yeah, I doubt this will work for most customers. I mean the number of possible configurations for rooms alone is ridiculously large. Kinect doesn't work for many people because their rooms are just too small. This will work for fewer people. But I guess it'll be awesome for people it works for!

Actually Sony developed something similar called xImmersive if I am not wrong. They also have a trailer with it here , so Microsoft can't pattent something that is already made.:

And that kinda proves my point. If you have a white room, and the console/computer has exact measurements etc, this would be absolutely amazing. In the real world, it won't work.

Well with lasers you can get EXACT dimensions of rooms and any obstructions within it in seconds....it only needs the total dimensions from where the projector stands to know what to project where..
As long as you don't move your console and equipment..it only has to measure it once...you'll just have to "re-calibrate" it if you move it...add a new table...ect ect..

Honest person, not nice..
Re: Microsoft files for patent for Complete Immersion Gaming
Microsoft is getting more retarded every day...

Re: Microsoft files for patent for Complete Immersion Gaming
All joking aside....if they can somehow equip the 720 with the lasers to measure dimensions....the projectors to splash the walls with video...and make it all work somehow....I think the Microsoft vs. Sony war would end with an epic win from Microsoft...
Just saying :)

Have you ever actually looked into that tech? I was at an AutoCAD seminar focused on architecture and they have the tech you are referring to, to get exact room dimensions quickly (not seconds!). If you think they could put that in a console you are highly mistaken. The cost of them are in the thousands. Line ones alone, without the motor to get the 3D, are in the about £200.
Unless you are thinking someone from MS would come out to do the scan, which could in theory work, but even then a good enough projector to work on non white walls would still set you back the best part of a grand, let alone needing what 5 for each wall and the ceiling. It just wouldn't be practical.
The tech might technically exist, but the cost would be extreme. And it still wouldn't look good without white walls, with the same distance between each side, and nothing else in the room to cast shadows etc.
Nah, this just won't happen. Imo the net step will be headsets if they really wanted to go down the path of augmented reality.
