try to string search in a packed file and you're fucked. On https://tuts4you.com/index.php there are way more and better tutorials on how to serial crack.

If its packed wait, till it is unpacked and dump the memory, for later analyses, then you can hook a unpack dependency of the packed file(If you dont have just copy one from System32 into the application folder). its the simplest way and des not stress you with the unpacking, finding OEP and fixing IAT(depending on the packer used).

I usually don't like videos who put music and effects, because, those videos are of showing off, not guides or tutorials.
