Both should work, regardless of 简体 or 繁体.
You must input the correct code (GBK or any other language codes)
My method of inputting the characters is by typing the words externally and then pasting it in.
It will show the words.

May i know what software are you using to input chinese characters?

I'm using the regional language pack from microsoft and it still types english in Maplestory after changing the settings to chinese keyboard.

Are you using 简体 or 繁体?

And is your language for non-unicode programs/OS in chinese?
