Any ram used should be freed once the patcher is done. Do you mean ram or disk space? Also have to agree with Swoosh, it would be far better to have the patcher on a separate server.

You need the right config files to open the server version of elements.data. If I remember right the server version is 1.2.6 (V7) or 1.3.1 (V10) where as the client version is 1.3.6 (V12). You can make a config easily for V7 or V10 by looking at the export config and removing the extra fields...
