If you're the father, they can't do that...what the duck? In the USA that would get you stabbed in the eye, I will be there with my wife the whole time, no way I would go home, or forced to go home.

You have the right to be there as long as you want when you're the father.
They can't send you home if you want to be there to support your wife.

Except she wasn't in labour yet and we have a very stretched healthcare system.

I did read. I was merely comparing it to the way it works in my country, where to-be-fathers can support their wife in the hospital when they feel necessary, even when she's not in labour.

I guess it's an american thing

I think it would be mental torture for the father if they were sent home, while there wife/girlfriend is in the hospital, especially what if there was a car jam or something, and missed the birth? I wouldn't be able to do it.

They now have a baby girl called Emily.
