Unfortunately, we have experienced significant hard drive damage that requires urgent maintenance and rebuilding. Recently rolled out any updates for Visual Studio 2005 or reinstalled it? Sounds a lot like the problem described.
This tread here also has a similar incident.
Reinstalling of VS2005 cleared the problem for most.
Though it would be wise to manually remove any left over register-keys before reinstalling it. A tool like ccleaner could work but manual deletion is the safest.
