I agree with exclamatio, its not only a physical challenge but also a mental one. Without a strong mental will you'll not make it to 100 push ups in most cases. Never go for 100 on your first rep and always stretch without stretching you will damage your muscles more. Going for 100 is fine but never work your body to hard otherwise it will do more damage then good. Also don't expect to do a rep of 100 if you've never done push ups or dont do many. 20-50 reps is smart in fact because of lack of muscular stress. Stress will cause pain, also it pushing to much will cause less reps to be made in turn that will lower your ability of growth daily.
Been some time since i visited this thread cause it was pretty inactive yeah.
I only rushed and pushed myself till 6500 and i completely lost my enthusiasm/motivation to continue this challenge.
Uhhh, what?
Firstly, x reps = set.
Secondly, you're meant to push yourself, otherwise how do you expect muscle growth? Provided you use the correct technique in any exercise and don't use a weight that's just completely stupid then you can push yourself. No pain, no gain.
Like he said, yes, you are going to damage your muscles, but you can never push yourself too hard in terms of strength.
You tend to damage your muscles by hammering that one particular muscle group. In this case, you are (chest & arms) so it's ideal to take a day or two break out of your schedule, particularly if you're doing hundreds of pushups each day.
There's going to be a limit, in which you simply cannot lift that weight - the laws of physics prevent it! :P:
If I'm being honest with you, I absolutely forgot about this challenge. I'll resume it in the next few weeks when I begin the gym again and I'll start frequently coming back with results and whatnot. I will end up doing the 10,000 push-ups but it's beyond me how long it'll take. I'm definitely up for the challenge though!
I want to give this a go because I've been doing a few pushups in recent weeks. I'm a naturally weak person, so I can only really do 20 at a time, then a minute break and another 15-20, but then after that everything's tiring. It's better than I was able to do a month ago but it still feels relatively inefficient.
I'll try to start this officially in a couple of days time and hopefully get to that target...eventually.
That's absolutely fine. Just remember, you've gotta start somewhere and the "experts" were once in your position!
Try to perfect your technique before muscular endurance. Why bother smashing out 1,000 wrong pushups when 100 perfect pushups are more beneficial?
Just started - 10.
Will do 10 every hour.
20 now.
Maybe I should start on this..
60 now, did a bit extra. Can feel it.
I workout, and I'm in a good shape, not big big like mr.universe, but Im in a good form.
To do 10.000 pushups it would probably take 4-5 months for me.
10.000 pushups in 1 year probably
I'm doing Pavel Tsatsouline's "Hit the deck", which means I'm doing about 50% of my max pushups every hour from time time when I get up to when I go to the bed. Which means I'm doing about 240 pushups daily. It's a two-week programme.
So it's about 3500 pushups in just two weeks :)
