10th Planet From the Sun

They started talking about the 10th planet a while ago... but they kept saying things like it can't be a real planet.

Unless you aren't talking about Planet X/Ottawa Object/Vulcan/Transpluto/or any of the other various names given it, at least.

I've already done a bit of research on Planet X... two main reasons that it probably isn't real are:

1) It's said to have a highly olipitical orbit, which is why we haven't seen it until just now. This orbit would make the planet unstable and it would have already either been thrown off into outer space somewhere or it would have stabled itself and become a normal planet.

2) NASA was said to have photographed Planet X in 1983. As it turns out, they only had found a distant galaxy and the media went wild and put a ton of words in NASA's mouth... thus, the 'discovery' of a tenth planet. They're probably doing the same thing again.


There have been a few people who thought they'd seen or gotten pictures of a 10th planet, but so far it's always turned out to be something else.

doesnt the name suggest it was found in 2003 :eh: lol and surely if its that far out another star would be closer to it not like our sun is the only star out there

why do they name a planet like a damn computer! why dont they call it 10thplan! lol

The nearest star to the Sun is 4.2 light years away (Proxima Centuari). The Next 2 nearest stars are Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centuri B both of which are 4.3 light years away.

1 light year = the distance light travels in 1 year = about 9,460,800,000,000 km
So the nearest star is roughly 39,735,360,000,000 km away.

Now the site claims that this planet is 97 AU away.
1 AU = Dist between Sun and Earth = about 150,000,000 km
So this planet is around 14,550,000,000 km from the sun.

A LOT closer to the Sun than any other star by a long shot.
About 2,700 times closer tbh.
