You can get up to 24mb from Be Unlimited
BT's MaxDSL is up to 8mb
Most LLU providers are up to 8mb
Dont know much about cable broadband but you can get various speeds. (I happened to see 10mb on the NTL site)
There is some dark fibre around the country but i dont kow how fast it is, and im pretty sure it aint for residential use.
I currently have a Unlimited 2mb/256k line and am wondering whether to keep it or switch to an 8mb/448k line with a 50gig cap for the same price from the same ISP.
The reson people pay sooo much for broadband in the UK is that BT are forced to keep their transit and central costs high to try and encourage growth in the LLU sector and frankly it aint working too well.
