    Post Asteroid Impact

    Hi all
As u know an asteroid is going to hit earth (April 2030 i think)
so if we want to survive we must change the asteroid direction
how do u think we could do that?
i think with an anti-gravity thing we could move it(i saw even a video about this to be sure about my idea =P)
so how could we save our planet?

strange that u didnt heard that
i saw it on the news
    World News =P
ya a laser maybe could help
but explosive weapons may not destroy the entire asteroid so the little parts could hit the earth
    and thats even dangerous =P

I hope it will hit earth. I don't want to live past my 50s' so this is pretty cool.
But probably in the 23 years we have, they'll find a solution.

    Re: Asteroid Impact

how is this a debate? are we all astrophysicists or something? do we know how big it is? its weight? the exact energy exerted by each possible weapon we could use? the angle at which it will collide with earth? its speed? have we calculated how much energy is required to sufficiently break it apart without leaving dangerous shrapnel?

no, no, no, no, no, and no.

Nuke it! That ought to incinerate it. Unless it's the size of Texas.

this is serious, and i have good new for all - Data Of Impact Corrected -
    Look at this :
A preliminary orbit suggests that 2002 NT7 is on an impact course with Earth and could strike the planet on 1 February, 2019 - although the uncertainties are large.
Astronomers have given the object a rating on the so-called Palermo technical scale of threat of 0.06, making NT7 the first object to be given a positive value. From its brightness, astronomers estimate it is about two kilometres wide, large enough to cause continent-wide devastation on Earth.

Lets hope doesnt hit Europe lol =P

    Edit:
Here is your Large & Speed detail response:
Researchers estimate that on 1 February, 2019, its impact velocity on the Earth would be 28 km a second - enough to wipe out a continent and cause global climate changes.NT7 will be on 1 February, 2019, is large, several tens of millions of kilometres

Let's hope that future observation could change the situation =P

    Re: Asteroid Impact

i doubt it will even hit tbh, before then we have other things to watch out for "nemesis" for one should have already sent meteor showers towards us, it is speculated that jupiter and co have caught some of them in their orbit however as we seem to have been discovering new moons round them an awful lot, but if some got through itd be pretty bad news theyd be due soon :P

... you just made a statement that "its not spam" but did nothing to back it up at all.

READ my post and not just the last line - THAT is why it is NOT a debate and should hence be moved elsewhere. Since NOBODY here can answer yes to all of those questions i stated, it should be moved to spam because you are just asking people to throw out the names of things which could destroy the Asteroid or throw it off course. Go find a dictionary and look up the meaning of a "debate".

How exactly did you see this play out in your mind?
Person1: "We should fire it with a laser!"
Person2: "yah lasers lawl i love lasers... PEOW! XD"
Person3: "lets fire missiles haha xD tho i like lasers too xD"
Person4: "You people do realise that lasers are out of the question because firstly they simply have not been developed to do that amount of damage, and secondly because they have quite a limited range. Not to mention the fact that any stray object with a reflective surface which crosses paths with the laser would most certainly bounce the laser beam astray, and would hence pose as a serious hazard."
Person1: "haha yea lasers lawl maybe they wont work then XD maybe we need oil drillers just like in that movie :D"
Person2: "haha no lol we can make a sheild that protects the earth!!!"

Along the lines of that? Maybe not? Well either way, thats how its going to end up.

And copying and pasting answers to all the questions i asked isn't going to help one bit, because if you are not the person who did all those calculations, who the hell are you to suggest how to stop it? Or more like, how the hell are you supposed to suggest anything when you obviously know shit all about the subject?

i was just saying what people thinked how to stop this
    i wasnt " Suggesting "
All of these news i heard from a lot so to make more specific
so i how i said before its just what people "Think About How To Stop THis "
Maybe someone has a good idea uh?
but with one thing u right, maybe i was wrong about posting in debate section, even if i readed the rules for 1 hour lol =P
But this is not useless and how u said i hope doesnt end up like u said
    by the way
i dont think rockets will work =P

Yay, another armageddon thingie. Seems we're going back to the stone age this century, be it one way or another. Oh well.

If some nation/group with big bucks is still around by then, we'll live. Because after all, even human survival is gonna make someone money >.>

    few things before we start:

    1) nukes wont work, to blow it up you need a compression wave and for that u need gas. Space is a vaccuum. Nukes will make a singed radioactive asteroid.

    2) you cant do antigravity. You cant mess with gravity.

3)Blowing it into smaller chunks is worse than a big chunk. small chunks = lots of smaller but still massive explosions over a wide area. 1 massive one contains the blast ubt does more damage.

    4)i AM an astrophysicist

    Re: Asteroid Impact

Yea and I also read somewhere that there's gonna be a meteor hitting us every decade in the next century. It's all pure shit. It's cool and all for someone who wants to scare people, but what's the use? If there's a rock the size of a small country headed towards earth then I doubt we can do anything about it until it's almost here (or nothing at all). Until then, this kind of thing is just to scare people as there is hardly any evidence supporting a big meteor hit in the next millennium.

If there were, don't you think there would be ALOT more people working on this problem? Unless 100% of the population on earth is ignorant as hell and I'm not willing to say that just yet (although I must say that this is very much possible. Dunno who said it (Was it Einstein?): "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not so sure about the the universe". I would have to agree =p).

    now that i remember
they said that the asteroid could be deflected but such thing cannot be made until 30 years
and if they right about the 2019 impact,we dont have much time....
