How could this possibly affect the elections. Are people going to say "Obama is now grandmotherless. I'm not voting for him anymore." I think not.

Thread, I don't believe it will change tomorrow's results. He did his campaign, most people are already decided on who to vote on. This is quite tragic though, it's hard to lose someone close while one of the most important things on our life is about to happen.
I was actually thinking the other way around, getting a pity vote. One of the first things I heard come out of someone's mouth when I told them was, "He really deserves to be president now" which is just weird if you ask me. I'm not saying I believe it should affect the election, just wondering if it might.
This is really a big inconvenience, I know they were very close.

Let me put this nice and simple... yes this will affect the votes. Have any of you ever checked how these campaigns are done? It's done by playing on the emotion of people, so maybe he doesn't gain many votes with it, but he will still gain.

Seriously, people vote on the person they feel for, to whom they feel connected, his grandmother dying will get some of the people who don't know yet who to vote for, vote for him.
