Yeah, someone told me a while ago it's much easier to learn Japanese (Kanji symbols in specific) if you have knowledge of Mandarin, do you speak it fluently or something? (I think I saw you post in a thread not too long ago that you are).
I probably would learn both eventually if I really liked one or the other, but I'm a slow learner when it comes to languages. An Italian girl I used to talk to a lot once told me to completely learn a language you have to immerse yourself into the culture (which is pretty hard because I rarely see any Chinese or Japanese people around where I live), and is why I was more drawn to Japanese due to watching a lot of anime.
Did you learn either of these languages online by the way?
I'd have to say I feel more passionate towards learning Japanese if I'm going to be honest, but on the other hand Mandarin seems the most logical one to pick up because it's likely to help me more in the future with my career than Japanese would. Each has it's positive sides and I'll probably try learning both eventually, I'm just unsure what I should try first.
