Question Chinese toys imported with lead?

Well,as I've been see'ing on the news lately like. All I keep see'ing is like "Don't buy the toys imported from China, they have alot of lead" as if they're going to ban China from importing those kind of toys.BUT,they've been making those toys since like forever as it seems, why the heck would they bring it to attention now?Not only that, but, the pencils we use to write in school has lead,so what, they are gonna ban pencils from school, telling people:"Pencils are a very dangerous WEAPON,please disarm your self of all these hazardous weapons before serious legal action is taken against you".I really don't get it...someone please give this dumb cat like, some kind of explanation. Is the lead they're talking about a different kind of lead or something?because if not then.....I can conclude this world is becoming crazier then I thought. :3

Re: Chinese toys imported with lead?

Pencil's don't have lead in them, it's called graphite.

As for toys containing lead, I believe it's the paint. Just make sure the kid isn't eating the paint and they should be fine, it's not like lead isn't already around us all the time. A lot of old pipes are made of lead and it's in old paints so it's not like it's a new problem.

I put it down to people panicing about stuff that is unlikely to effect them when much bigger things are being ignored...

As Robert said, its the paint that has lead. Don't give chinese toys to your teething 1 year old.

Re: Chinese toys imported with lead?

I was just about to point out that they stopped using lead in pencils and use graphite because of its price and it was poisonus. You just can't trust the chinese.

Not really. Now it's a mix between graphite and some other substance.

Also, seriously OP, just because they both have the same name doesn't mean they're the same damn thing!

It's only a issue with kids who still put the toys in their mouth. Best option for this would be plastic toys, as are already widely available.

Thankies for clearing that up for me.I was all ways told pencil tips are made from led,but heck,I live in America. There is alot of other things America has lied to me about,-shrugs-.Hrm,but if it's been an issue for awhile, why does it seem to me as if,like, starting about two,or three weeks ago that lead in Chinese toys is mentioned in America?Oh well, but,at least I know pencil tips are made out of a different material then lead,I guess I can learn from other places then school and from family :3
