    Decent workout?

Well, I've been meaning to get fit for a long time now. I plan to join a gym within the next few months and have a run everyday, but I need something else. Whats a small workout I can do when I wake up and before I go to bed just to improve a little?

If you want good exercise when you wake up and before you go to sleep, do some basic exercises- push ups, curl ups, sit ups, any type of up, jumping jacks, the usual.
I would do some cardio-vascular stuff when you wake up- jog, go for a bike ride, etc. but do most of the physical things mentioned above before you go to sleep. It will help.

    Re: Decent workout?

I normally do a few sit-ups and push-ups before I go to bed, and then right as I wake up. It normally helps me wake up, and gives me a quick little exercise. Through the day I have gym class (which is doing either weight-lifting, or a sport), and then when I get home maybe lift a few weights, and then some chin-ups and run for a few minutes. It only takes a few minutes, and does keep you in shape.

I'd recommend ringing up your local defence force and getting a the starter pack sent out which contained [for me] a overview of the fitness needed to be in the Army including BEEP tests, BMI and everything you can think of, it also came with further fitness training if your finding it easy'ish and want a challenge on the weekend for example. This is basically just for someone starting off who is in good shape, from then on you'll probably need a personal trainer just for a week or so that can help you in every other aspect that the defence force fitness Brochure(s) didn't cover including supplements.

or just wait for exy to reply ;)

    Re: Decent workout?

How fit would you say you are atm dude?

Exercise in the morning is awesome, go buy a skipping rope and skip for a few minutes, go outside weather permitting or clear a small space indoors and ur winning ;) Skipping is a perfect exercise in the morning because you can get a short intense workout wherever you are, this is more beneficial than a long drawn out workout. Because skipping also requires co-ordination you're gonna be firing up your central nervous system a lot easier for the rest of the day. You'll concentrate better at school and be more productive at work ;)

If you can't skip then great, as you learn and pickup the co-ordination required to do a basic rope jump you will be getting fitter too.

google/youtube for "skipping for beginners" or something, there will be loads of info

after you skip do some press ups, situps and squats, simply try to do more each time, make sure you keep a record of how many you do each time and try to beat your score. When you finish do a few light stretches. Don't waste time by thinking what to do on the spot, have an idea the day before what you are going to do, this way your workouts save time.

technically you do all exercise before you sleep :P

but if you want to get to sleep easily then dont workout at night, like i mentioned before you are stimulating your C.N.S but you are also releasing a whole bunch of hormones when you workout and they all keep you awake ;)

just because you are tired does not mean you are prepared to sleep

I'd say I was below average really. I'm not muscly, I'm weak, unfit. Hense the whole purpose of this.
I'm sure I have a skipping rope somewhere, I'll find one.
Thanks for your answer Lee, really summed up alot.

Heh, never really thought of skipping as a good form of exercise, sure I've read that it's good for cardio, but I just stuck to jogging. Gunna have to start doing that tbh. Even though I've recently bought a home-gym, I still find the best exercises are push-ups, crunches and pull-ups.

    Re: Decent workout?

    I started off with
    20 crunches
    20 push ups
    20 crunches
    20 squat jumps
    20 push ups
    20 V sit ups
    30 push ups
    x3 times a day

But I make changes frequently depending on what I do in the gym/muay thai.
