Never read the book but I believe I can help, depending on the level of competency and literacy you want to portray in 'your' work.

Find something metaphorical that the trials represent in the people or literal. You're looking for what would lead to the Salem witch trials, like emotions, circumstances, etc. You're the one who read the book so you then would find references from the material you have read; you shouldn't need to quote since you're just researching and analyzing one book (outside references should be quoted/documented).
English is the easiest class to bullshit in lol. I've used the same techniques in it since middle school and have never learned a thing in it since.

Never read it either, but the style we're taught, which is really directed towards poetry though I use it to analyse novel extracts, sort of. Is:
    1st Paragraph: Overview
    2nd Paragraph: Structure and form
    3rd Paragraph: Grammar and syntax
    4th Paragraph: Lexis and imagery
    5th Paragraph: Punctuation and phonology
    6th Paragraph: Conclusion
Of course the wont all be relevant when it comes to analysing novels, but just look for onomatopoeia, metaphors, similes etc. Find themes and link things towards the themes throughout. Don't forget when you state your point to give and example (quote from the novel) and explain it.
Not sure if this helps or not but anyway goodluck!
