Lets talk about even wanting to own a car here in singapore.
To buy a car, you need to get a certificate of entitilment which is (supposedly) to control the amount of cars on the road.
The prices of this COE shot up to ~38k for cars below 1600cc and its hovering close to 60k for cars above.
So you have to pay for this COE BEFORE paying for a car.
Plus we have this shitty gantries which charge 1.50 to 3.50 everytime you pass it. If you ever venture into the central business district, get ready to spend over 10bucks just driving around. :\

Understood. To the outside world or at least here what we see of Singapore and surrounding areas is very very very limited. If we watch TV and look at India all we will see is a very poor poverty stricken area, but having just googled some images, it looks like an awesome place and I'm envious of the surroundings.
Apologies if I offended you in any sort of manner.
My first car was this exact car (minus the damn spots on the hood/roof).

A 92 Mazda Protege LX. May not be flashy stock, but in my opinion, your first car should be one that will last you. Low gas costs, fairly fast, and can be customized nicely. Baby lasted me 5 years, lasted my foster mothers boyfriend 5 years before that and when I sold it, the car was still in near mint condition. Still original parts and all. You should really consider something else, but in the end it's your choice.
ah no I don't take that as offensive. Singapore is very obscure and it's surroundings are not like it so yea, many misconceptions :P
Dad went to Singapore (and other places in the area) on a cruise last year on his honeymoon. He said it's one of the cleanest, neatest places he'd ever been to.
Great place to visit, not the best place to live in.
screw insurance,
just get it pal!
For my first car I just aim on gettin a small run around I'm quiete keen on corsa's etc

Ive heard alot of positive things from audi cars. In poland they are very popular the A4 and A6 but if your getting an older audi like me (considering it) get the tip-tronic transmission they will last you longer, dont get the multitronic they will crash on you faster.
Audis are great cars. For a first car honestly I'd go with something that would get you from point A to point B. I had a stick shift 03 tiburon GT as my first car. It had dents and peeling paint but it got me around and was cheap on insurance. I paid for the car and insurance myself has a part time working high school student.
If your parents are going to pay for or help with the payments, go for a nicer car. If you have to pay for everything yourself then I recommend getting something a little cheaper. You have a lot more pride in a car you bought yourself over a car your parents bought you, and in turn you'll treat it better and it will last longer.
Sorry, but I just had to comment on this.
Just because it is a 3.0 doesn't mean it will guzzle gas. I have a stage 2 supercharged 4.0L v6 07 Mustang and I get 30+ mpg on the highway cruising at 55. The amount of gas you use solely depends on how fast and hard you drive your car.
Engine size doesn't equal power either. My 2.7L tiburon only pulled 120 horses on a mustang dyno. 0-60 in 8 seconds is by no means "powerful".

Get something that takes you from point a to b. My first few cars could only go about 50 from the tranny's being so old and shot. Everyone wants a fast car, but you better have the money to back the ins. up.
I have a piece of shit WRX and I pay $180 a month. So get a shitty car and great insurance on it and you'll probably pay a third of what I do.
This is my first car : http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:1...440C9C.jpg&t=1
Quite a reliable car in my opinion if you get it serviced every now and again, and cheap to run with lower insurance than other cars. Cost me 1200 GBP to insure this, whereas the car cost me 950 GBP baring in mind that was at 18 years old.
New drivers don't realize the costs involved with owning a car, it's not over and done with the moment you've paid for the car.
These are the additional costs that i have to pay for:
- Drivers license renewal - $35 per Year
- Initial Car registration - $600
- Renewing your car registration - $500 per year
- Fuel - $100 per week
- Insurance - $1,500 per year
- Maintenance and Servicing - $1,000 per year
- Repairs/Part replacement/Modification - $2,000 per year
I bought my car for $9,000 and as this shows, i spend about $10,000 a year on it, and only half of that is fuel. After the first year and after i had fixed up any issues with it, the initial registration and repair costs were dropped, but that still leaves about $8,000 per year.
Just making your prepared, because i too thought "once i pay for the car, all i gotta do then is pay for the fuel!". I was most definitely wrong.
so it's not going to be your first car, it's your parents and you're just leeching off of them? Think I'm using the term "leeching?" inappropriately? Right, well in case you haven't thought of this but it's not your own car because of the following:
- you're not buying it
- your insurance is through your parents and not your own, in fact you even thought of not even being on their insurance.
- you're only paying for gas and nothing else, not even upkeep on the vehicle.
- you're NOT buying it
seems like to me you're REALLY ready for this "first car" buddy. But don't take my word for it; we just wanna help you out. Everyone want's a "cool" first car, but as long as it runs that's all that matters
lol ur the coolest shit here.
First of all i would love to buy my first car and my parents said no we will buy you that keep the money for something else. And iam the only child i dont got brothers or sisters. Not every family makes their son/daughter buy a fuckin car ok?
Yeah my two brothers were boguth their first car, but since I had a bit of money at the time, even though I'm the baby of the family, I bought my own instead of having it given to me. Although they did help out with the insurance.
