No punishment in your own house or on your own property, you can do what you want.
In public you really need to be blowing the smoke in their face for them to know (unless you're being an idiot and publicly using a bong?). Usually you'll just get a warning though, same for being caught with personal possession (about 1g).
They have a problem with paraphernalia though, so you have a MUCH better chance of being let off if you have a joint, rather than a bong/pipe.

In my town the police have began with a new 'operation', where they put in 40 new civil cops ONLY to stalk/track suspect weed/hash users.
A few months ago I were wating for the bus, meanwhile I smoked a self-made cigarette (yeh i'm cheap) and the cops came by as they always do and they suspected my cigg to be a joint..whioo, and then, they toke my fucking cigg for analyz and made me strip in the police station to check if I had any drugs on me -.- ffs. After that I even had to fucking piss in a cup and after my piss got analyzed (result: neg=clean) I could finally leave...Wooho for ruining my friday night.

I was talking about smoking on your own property btw, as long as you're smoking on your own property and only have a "personal amount" of weed on the premises, they don't care. But it raises the question of why they're at your house in the first place, unless someone tipped them off that you're selling.
It's also legal to have a single plant per household i think, but only in a few states AFAIK. I don't grow/cultivate so i don't really care about it tbh.
They catch dealers here, not users. That's the way it should be.
If you get pulled over or searched and they ask if you have any illegal substances, just tell them that you have a joint or whatever. Tell them up front and don't waste their time, and as long as they can see that it's only for your own personal use, they will leave you alone and even let you keep it.
Man, around here you're not even allowed to have a single G on you, not even at your own propety. If they (the cops) would find you walking around with some weed, they'll most likely do a "house-research" for more drugs and let you piss regulary for a month or more. And if you're under the age of 18 and have been caught serval times for drug abuse, there's a chance your sent to a treatment for atleast 6-8months.

I don't understand why they would make you piss in a cup for several months. Their job is to catch people with drugs, not to use regular testing to make sure people stay off them.
If I got pulled over and had to give a urine/blood sample for an alcohol test, even if they found cannabis in my system (but not under the influence) they wouldn't do anything. Unless they've caught me with it or I'm under the influence, it's none of their business.

We don't have 8th's here, you either buy 1 'stick' which is 1g for $25, or a $50 bag which is usually a little over 2g.

Over here weed is weed, regardless of what grade it is, it's all the same price if it's bush or hydro or just leaf. So you gotta know who sells the good stuff and who doesn't.
If i was actually "dealing" i would of course stick to those weights, but because i only sell to my mates (who come over here to smoke it anyway), i don't mind packing in 3+ grams into a $50 bag. They chop it up and smoke it here anyway so i still get to smoke it, so i don't mind throwing some extra in.
I guess it depends, mix weed with other stuff and you can start tripping.
Mostly hash yeah, by bad trip I mean : really really warm body, heartbeat accelerated ... etc.
