It's about shaming, ridiculing and victimising a young girl who was physically and emotionally bullied into suicide for something she did when she was 12 years old. I make the case, because I could have quite easily ended up killing myself directly because of it. I would go into it more but I've probably already said too much on a public forum. Tbh I think the internet saved my life, it gave me an outlet where everyone was equals, and everyone made friends easily (minus the very few bad apples). This was before the current internet that spawned from commercialisation and social media, and the majority went from being good people to pricks. I'd doubt anyone back then would have bullied her, but then her pic would have probably only gotten onto usernet if that, and there were around 3 girls on the internet back then so she'd probably get chatted up more than insulted.

It was bullying. Any form of directed personal abuse is bullying. Frankly this is the exact aim of the first RZ forum rule. It has always been one of my priorities in life to fight against bullying, specifically due to my past.

I very much doubt she asked for the attention. She just wanted her story to be a warning of what can happen, to try and educate the internet as to what can happen when you throw personal abuse around like it's nothing. Really it has worked quite well, it's just a shame it's too late for her. People just shouldn't do it, it's why the police as having a greater and greater role on the internet. I wouldn't be shocked if the guy who was bullying her got jailed because of it, he deserves nothing less imo.

Also lets be honest, a loss of life is a lot more worry of getting attention than like 90% of the other crap that gets it. I'd much rather a discussion like this which raises awareness to bullying than which company is suing which over IntProp.

Sadly, you all haven't been through depression and/or haven't received bullying that she has.

I'm going to share a simple story of my own life, thought I'm sure no one cares about it;

Back in elementary school, starting from grades 5, I was the bullied by kids at my school. Why? I was smaller than normal people, and I was alot weaker, and alot less athletically capable than most. During P.E, I would get balls smashed into my head, I would get tripped, and i would get laughed at when we did simple High-Jump, and Long-Jump. While all this was happening, I did not want to go to school at all, I did not want to go outside, and all I wanted to do was stay inside, and because of the bullying, my grades dropped from Above-Average grades, to way below-average grades, I did not have the motivation to do work, listen to anyone, and do anything because of the bullying and because I didn't really see a point in going to school if all I was going to do was get bullied. Every grade, I scrapped by with D's. When I finally finished Elementary /Middle School and moved on to High-School, I went to one of the worst possible in Chicago (Because I had such horrible grades), where I was asian, and where everyone was African American. I went into the school, once again being the shortest, weakest, and essentially the minority. I got racially insulted, I got insulted of my body size (Which I lost, in my junior year of High-School) and I got insulted because I was weak and slow. If you have gone through getting bullied, insulted, physically abused (In the case of me getting beat up, and insulted), and mentally abused (in the sense of the insults), you WILL have thoughts of suicide. During my first year as a High-School student, I had thoughts of hurting myself, or finding ways to prevent myself from going to school (Physically harming myself). Until i realized it was not needed, Instead i picked myself up, and got flying-colors of grades, and went to a better school.


What I'm trying to get at is simple. To know what one is going through, you must have gone through the same pain. I understand where Amanda is standing, and I know why she may have killed herself. I have been in her shoes (In the sense of getting bullied), and i have experienced pain in the way she has experienced pain. Before you go blowing your mouth off, that she deserved to die for her actions, or she was stupid for committing suicide, please just TRY to think about what she has gone through, I am sure it is probably pain,. that you all have never felt before.

All said above, is a true story of my life. I eventually got help because I talked to the school therapist about it, and I was eventually to help myself stand up, and help myself ignore the insults, and the bullying. However, Amanda was never allowed to get the help she needed, why? She did not want to risk her photos getting leaked. What you all may not realize is, Amanda may have wanted to get help, but did not get help because there are many consequences of not doing as the person who is bullying you says.

But that's my personal relation to this whole problem. To those wondering, I am currently 20 years old, and attending one of the best schools for engineering in Illinois.

Don't forget that it wasn't just because of the bullying, not only was it cause she got beaten up. Being harrassed for 2 years or so by a pedo isn't bullying, getting woken up at 4am by the police to tell you your picture is all over the net, is not bullying. being blackmailed is obviously not bullying, lol.

I didn't know "bullying" all covered the things she went through, I just said it cause some keep bringin up the "she slept with a guy that had a gf" =P Im just saying that wasn't all that happend.

Ok, so she flashed her boob that is not smart of the girl because she mostly should know that when she flashes her boob that someone would be making a picture of it and would be sending it around school, that's the most common thing that can happen and of course you get bullied about it because now people think that you are a whore because of you doing that i have experienced the exact same thing at a girl who was at my school and showed a picture to a guy and he tossed it around school and people where bullying her, she's still alive and she didn't commit suicide but she could if she really was starting to hate her because of that.

As for his personal opinion. Yes he can have his opinion and I can voice mine that he's got a fucked up and twisted view on the world. In the end I will always fight against injustice and for those who need help. Like I said it's my work to understand people, to pick up on these kind of things, I've been trained for that, I'm not saying it's an absolute, but he definitely has tendency's which are definitely not 'normal'.

I want people to understand that, not just to kick him down, which I do as I do not want to hear such BS anywhere. But because I also want those who do feel down etc to know that his words have no standing. Please note this isn't a personal attack on you, we are trying to help here. You aren't the first to do this, and I'd bet on the majority of English speakers once wrote like this. Just try to stick some in, even if they are wrong it will make it a lot easier to read. Don't bother with commas until you get full stops working for you. They are mainly for when a sentence becomes too long.

If you leave someone with no hope of any way out of a situation they don't want to be in, death becomes the only option to them. If an outside force is putting them in this situation they are directly responsible for anything that happens to that person.

Hmm.. I think my thoughts on this whole matter, is that she was just looking for attention from the get-go. She got it, but not in the way she wanted. Don't get me wrong I'm a bit empathetic that she is now dead, but at the same time I'm not since she is the one that took her own life, and she is the one who had full control over whether or not she lost it.

I don't think there needs to be such a big deal about it either. People kill themselves everyday over worse issues than this, you don't see a big news story and a bunch of Facebook pages and discussions about them. That's what I think anyway, I mean, teenagers just don't flash their body parts online for nothing, she was obviously deprived of attention and was desperately seeking it.

I must agree that this was blown out of proportions in many ways as there are more sad reasons why people may die and/or suicide. However, to me I personally take this as a reminder that bullying still exists in the world. There are many parents that don't think it happens and don't talk to their children often about it. I'm a bit glad this made it to the news, and I'm glad that people are aware of it, it'll serve as a reminder that there is still alot of bullying and people being judgmental in this world.

If everyone at school is talking about sex and stuff, then it might not seem like a big thing to flash. I guess it's more of a liberal vs conservative discussion that.

People calling her a role model however need to stop. Likewise you implying Paris is a role model. Neither are anywhere near what we should be telling kids who to be like. But alas the people they should be like rarely make anywhere near the public domain. They are far too busy in labs and universities, or hospitals, or saving lives in other countries, etc etc etc. Sex sells, and real role models just aren't sexy enough to talk about.

A young dumb girl who found herself eventually in a position she could no longer cope with and by then felt like there was no way out. There was no "support" in place before it got to this point and none that caught her before she took her life. Of course she is more well known than the many others who feel it is necessary to take their own lives when their own individual story becomes to much to bear, but her "fame" is merely a reflection of our own culture.

If you are unhappy at this 1 being an example (likely because she is a "pretty" young girl) and not who you decide should be getting the attention then why not proactively lead as an example and do your bit to influence and change culture.

Bullying should never be trivialised, regardless of who is being bullied. There is much to it and it is rarely clean cut black and white but we must be secure in ourselves enough to be sure of our actions and to not let the petty controlling games of others effect us, recognise those who need help and offer it freely but also have compassion for the bullies who always act from fear and rarely realise the consequences of their actions.
