... where the shit are you pulling this crap out of?
2% vulnerable to a miscellaneous drug. OK, WHAT DRUG? What EXACTLY is this drug which affects our 2% population of "vulnerable" people? And where exactly do you see these horse owners selling them for meat cos they can't afford to feed them? Really out of every possible explanation for why there's horse meat in the beef your answer is because the owners can't feed them so they sold them to what, a beef slaughterhouse and the people working there just thought "eh why the fuck not, lets just chop them all up together"???

Enough arguing. Someone point me in the direction of where I can fucking buy some meatballs w/ horsemeat. :D

The price of meat is absolutely insane. We've grown into a society where we want meat everyday and not just a tiny amount either, but large amounts. And the meat industry is absolutely fine with accommodating that, hence the ultra low prices and the mass production of meat.
I mean aside from diseases and all, it's really what is ruining our lives, now don't get me wrong, we obviously choose to buy that amount of meat, but we use large quantities of food just to produce this meat, which is insane, I mean instead of feeding ourselves, we are actually feeding animals to eat them, even though we get less food in return. On top of that the prices of meat is so low, that for example hamburgers are actually cheaper then most fruits.
The more you think about our food, the more stupid you feel.

I am talking, of course, about that chemical called phenylbutazone that causes aplastic anemia.

Which is used on horse that probably aren't going to be used for meat, because seriously why would you waste drugs on an animal you are about to kill? It's also not allowed to be used on horses which are intended to be eaten, and therefore there would be around 0% chance for it to be in this meat. We are talking about horses which are breed for meat, these aren't pet horses ffs.
Also, Phenylbutazone is used on Humans around the world anyway, so 2% is pushing it even if every sodding burger was dosed with the chemical (which would have been found wayyyy before finding horse meat in it).

And yet, cow meat is more expensive than horse meat due to demand.
I'd say salt is what is really destroy our lives, and fat and sugar. I don't eat much meat personally, mainly because I feel a bit guilty about eating another animal. But then I feel slightly guilty about eating plants too, so meh. I wish I could drink mineral water and photosynthesis! If I reincarnate I want to be one of those jellyfish that have evolved to do just that.
The more I think about food, the more glad I am that our population has easy access to it. But that's probably because most of the time I spend thinking of food, it's trying to solve famine in third world countries.

Ahuh... and if this drug affects humans then why would they inject it into a horse being used for food? Oh wait - THEY DON'T.
Any animal severely injured or sick enough to require ANY sort of treatment like that would NOT be slaughtered for human consumption. Which takes us back to your argument of horse owners just "giving them up" to be killed... Yea, that doesn't happen. Especially not to a slaughterhouse. Animal protection agency sure, but not an abattoir.
You seem to be basing everything off the assumption that the horse was not "meant" to be there and every single person who worked there either mistook it for a cow or was "in on it".

Right this way sir..
Welcome to IKEA! may i take your order of meatballs?
8 , 10, 15 or 20 meatballs sir?
:zippy:
meh, the horse meat really won't affect in anyway of sales in future as it has been selling for years and no deaths have been reported.
Fact: People are still gonna eat dem ballz
vs
Expection: IKEA's sales to drop badly (Nah doubt so).
Re: Horse Meat Found in IKEA Meatballs!
TBQH, eating animals is more humane than enslaving them and torturing them for our amusement.
Re: Horse Meat Found in IKEA Meatballs!
I never ate Ikea food to begin with, but meat is meat. If it gives you the same nutrition, who the fuck cares?

And here is where the problem lies, people who were maintaining horses that are no longer useful for horse racing and were injected with the chemical can no longer put up with the costs due to the current economy. So the only thing they can do with it is face an increasing debt or sell it to somebody else and hope it isn't to a slaughterhouse that doesn't mind horses with this chemical inside because that would be the last resort. Unfortunately, it seems that some horses with this chemical may have reached a rogue slaughterhouse that some companies like IKEA or Nestle used to bypass all safety regulations.
The horses that aren't meant to be there are the horses with the chemical injected into them and yet, the chemical has been detected in some samples.

If it is used then it is probably used under very controlled conditions and not hidden inside someone's food. Any quantity of the chemical can pose a serious risk, as little as 4g of the chemical were reported in the 60's to be enough to pose a serious health risk.

Not really, don't get me wrong, those 3 are quite bad in large quantities, however that's a choice you knowingly make. The way anti biotics are used right now is completely messed up. Animals are just filled up with it, all the while it destroys the natural immunity system and bacteria etc is adapting to it. If we keep this up sooner or later we will have a massive problem with meat, simply because you will get sick when you eat it.
People think this is something far away and that there is no real worry because we can detect it etc, but the fact is that the checking of meat is extremely bad and our rules and guidelines are made only so that the public feels safe, while it keeps the costs down for manufacturers, in reality it's all going down the toilet and when shit hits the fan, we will be too late to catch it in time.
If you just think how much we've ruined the past 50 years, how do you think the next 50 will look like?
Re: Horse Meat Found in IKEA Meatballs!
I was kind of annoyed when I found this out, a few weeks prior I had gone around to all my local butchers to find horse meat when it's been right in front of me the whole time. Been making all kinds of gains since!

BS, maybe it happened a few times but the vast majority were breed for meat. Breeding horses for meat is exactly the same as breeding cows for beef, it's a closed system. Farms need to prove where the meat has come from, a full history etc. Also, racing horses are likely worth too much to be used for meat, they cost a lot of money even if it's just for breeding purposes. If anything it would be the work horses that are being retired, but have nothing wrong with them.
In some samples being 2%, and the rate of death being 100% to anyone who has an intolerance?
It's banned for humans in the USA and UK, but the rest of the world is free to use it as they want. As for it needing 4g, well you'd be lucky getting 4g of meat! Let alone 4g of the chemical, which is probably close to the entire dose the horse received, lol.

Not really, people don't seem to realise how much salt is in stuff. Food labelling has been getting better, but I'd guess the vast majority don't really care what is in stuff and just go with the "well it's on a shop shelf, it must be fine" attitude. It's kind of why I don't really mind all these proposed laws designed to make society healthier, because I kind of think they need to do something (though lowering the average death age is probably a good thing when you look at pensions and stuff sadly)
The same thing is happening with pesticides really.
I look at it as nature being a balancing act, it wants there to be a food chain where plants grow, get eaten by pests, pests multiply, eat too much plant which can't sustain it, and pests die off. The problem is we are artifically throwing stuff into that chain to try and break it, but nature has the power of evolution to counter whatever we try and do. At some point the food chain we have set up will fail, and a lot of people will go hungry. Likely any country which doesn't produce it's own organic food. Though I'd be happy that agriculture will become as far more important industry, because really farmers should be some of the best paid people as they keep us alive. It's more important than doctors really, and yet the pay is pretty shit in comparison.
