How much impact did Education do to your job?

At the moment I am just starting college working towards a diploma in Level 1 and Level 2 plumbing, I will eventually then go onto level 3. This will essentially give me the classroom knowledge and qualification to become a basic plumber then allowing me to join a firm to get the actual workplace experience. My job on the other hand I have not needed any education for it really, I am just essentially a 'waiter', taking out food, collecting glasses and keeping the restaurant/pub that I work in clean.

The last job I had I needed my educational background to get the job, but the job itself did not require it at all! I have found that you need a good educational background to get good jobs even if they don't use what you learned.

Got a degree in Information Technology but I am now a staff at a law firm near our house. mayybe, education gas not do much when it comes in finding my job.
