Why do you guys go through all the trouble to bring "new" features to RZ, like actually having a homepage, when all you're going to do is end up not fixing it and never using it? There are so many features on RZ that don't really have a purpose other than using up space on the server. In the sense of stuff actually working, the title of RZ's most impressing feature has been held by the vast amount of smilies you can choose from when making a post for the past 5 years, imo.

I have a lot of love for this site. Its just really upsetting to see the lack of effort that is put in to it. Things like not a single link working on the homepage and killing off the sections people actually care about. (spamzilla, anyone?)

Our goal is to make ragezone.com your homepage to find whats new in the private server scene and just to kick back and laugh.

What ever happened to that?

The problem is that it requires a lot of dedication from a lot of different people, so MentaL keeps trying to build something, but so far everytime the website doesn't get what is needed, not much that you can do about it, well except for not trying.

I think the best thing to do with something like this is to first write something good about every major game we got, description, info about what we have to offer, how the game plays etc etc, have it checked by others to see if it's well written and such, and when you got a nice amount of stuff, then release it all at once, that way you have a good start, once you got that, it's easier to keep it going, whereas now people just can't be really bothered to do anything for it because no one else is.

So yeah it needs a really good start and with some luck enough people will stick around.

Oh and he should get multiple people per game, I believe he wanted to stick with 1 person per game, I think it's much better to use multiple people.

Funny you are talking about it, there was hardcore process of selecting writters, alot of people volunteered, but only the most active and reliable were selected, ya know.

Well that's the thing, while I can understand that you want the best of the best, the simple fact is that to get more and better people, it's needs to be running first, so you will need to accept people who might not be the best writers and try to clean things up.

Exact same thing happened with the RaGECAST, everyone hyped it up and then 6 episodes were done until it got completely dumped.

People either have other things to do, or are too busy, or simply lose interest in doing these things... it is how things are done here, it is how they have always been done here, it's probably the way they always will be done here.

Ragecast, the IRC chat, the frontpage, and i'm pretty sure there are a few more failed ventures that i can't remember at this exact moment.

The forum was going GREAT, but failed leadership ruined it. Adding all of these absolutely pointless "features" which inevitably failed, and the removal of Spamzilla (our most active section), has without a doubt killed the Evo sections. Sadly, it can only be blamed on the people who were given the power to make those decisions, because when you look at it, the timing fits perfectly like a glove.

Times change, I've heard the forum has changed for the worst so many times, yes the general section is quite inactive compared to 2 years ago, then again most of that activity was absolute shit, where you were constantly browsing spamzilla, I rather avoided it.

As for the failed leadership, well it might be just me, but MentaL has always been the owner and Exy been around for pretty much forever now as Smod and higher.

Tbh it's the constant bitching about how things got worse, is what is making things actually worse, it also makes other people (especially Smods/Admins) get annoyed with some of you much faster, and let's face, if someone who is constantly bitching, some even posting absolute shit to get a ban etc, would you listen to their advice to bring back a spam section, or would you think "good riddance"?

The spam section is bad, it's always been bad, imo there should be a regular chatting section, however no supposed word games, no counting games, no random posts, aka no stupid shit that caused so many of the staff you talk about for failed leadership, to get pissed off with it and remove it.
Last time I was a mod I spent a lot of time trying to do something with the section that on 1 hand would keep it open, but on the other hand would remove all the crappy spam, eventually we decided to enforce the rules a little more and people got pissed off.

The point of my a bit blurry post is, that it's all a mess, and unless, just like the site, it gets done right, then it's better to leave it. If having no spamzilla means we don't get stupid counting games, we don't get spam through our more regular topics etc, then I rather don't have it, if people could actually behave and not act retarded then it might be worth bringing back in a different form with actual mods that will warn/infract when people do spam crap.

The quality of Spamzilla is something you honestly can not comment on unless you were active there. Time and time again i see people saying "I would browse through it and it was shit", but ask ANYONE who was active, and every single one of those people will tell you that it was the best section on RaGEZONE, and that we didn't have "mindless spam". Whatever counting or word games you are thinking of, happened only within the first week or so of the section opening, after that they were swiftly removed.

I should know after all, i was the sole moderator of that section for months.

The failed leadership came when Dan started taking time away from the forum, so to make up for it he added extra smods and all those other bullshit ranks. I became a mod at the same time as those guys did, so i know pretty well how incompetent a LARGE majority of them were (and for some, still are). Yet, these were the people who were making the decisions because Dan relied on them to give him accurate information.

At the end of the day though; Did the forum activity drop dramatically when Spamzilla was removed? Yes. Do the LARGE majority of members want it returned? Yes. Put it to a vote if you really want, but nobody here should be misguided into thinking it was removed because people didn't want it. No, roughly 3-5 people who were not active or familiar with the section AT ALL decided that it would be best, and advised Dan as such.

I can see where the Spamzilla haters are coming from. And I agree, the section did attract it's handful of idiots but no more than the rest of the sections had. When Spamzilla was around there was the fun characters such as Genryu, InZan3, Ramuthra (though he has made his infamous comeback), SiGGy and a good few other lads. Aye some of them were a handful but without them there wouldn't be any greenies or the boys in red. Aye so what people have fun in their own special way, it's the internet.

So I really don't know how your memory turned into a glorified view of spamzilla, because I do remember for what it was, I used to visit it daily, moderate it etc, and it was always full of spam and there was always a few topics on the first page with a zillion posts which were complete spam.

A hue amount of spam threads were also created by MMO mods who "wanted to be cool", and if your memory really is that good, you should remember me making a thread almost every single month telling the MMO mods to fuck off from that section. But I never had the support of any of the seniors, they would join simply to make homosexual jokes as they always do, and then leave. Still wondering why i regard them as being incompetent and childish?

Yes. I hardly ever see Dan doing anything, especially positive for the forum. His routine consists of making himself apparent every few months, adding some crazy feature in or trying to keep up the forum, and "BUT THIS BUY THAT!" Like Ron said, the forum should be handed to someone else, at least temporarily. I wouldn't say exy either, because he's hardly active also.

Do you think I care who made those threads? And yes I knew, you do realize that I looked those threads up yesterday...
The point is the section was full of spam, I was against those threads, if it had been my call they would have been closed forever. But they didn't get closed, hence the spam continued, not just in those topics, but in all topics.

The issue with that section has always been that it was full of spam, and due to the various views on how to deal with it, it stayed as a spam section. Hence why I said that it needs very clear rules and none of those crappy topics should be allowed, that way it will also be doable for a mod to control, personally I could never be bothered to read every thread and I never went into those large threads due to the massive spam and I didn't feel like spending a hour of my day reading spam from people who had nothing better to do all day.

So Spamzilla should NOT return, it would be good to put something like a chat forum, but we would need some actual rules and they would need to be enforced, basicly anyone that is obviously spamming gets a warning, second time a infraction etc.

Ever since Dan got his life going again, which is like 5 years ago or something, he hasn't had the time that he used to, back in the day me and him were able to moderate the forum just the 2 of us, having both the time for it and due to the size of the forum. Now he doesn't have that much time anymore and the forum is huge.
Yes perhaps someone else could do it better, but why should he give it up? It's his site, it's like saying "well you're not using your TV anymore like you should, you better give it to me", it's his property, simple as that.
He has fought to keep this site up, spend lots and lots of money on it and even though money has been better the last couple of years, I'm not sure if he actually got enough money back from it that he put in.

As for why RZ is not that profitable, simple, it's main goal is offering server files for free, the only sponsors this site gets are people running a server they want to advertise or people who are selling professional files, either way you don't get the heavy hitters, I mean if this site had size and activity while it was all legal, then he could make lots of money on it, but in the current state that just is not possible.

I do think it would be good to try some new things etc etc, however who would you pick for that? Most of the people that get so much power get cocky with it, it's why the current system is working quite well, sure not much happens, but then again, not much happens, I remember times where topics were full of complaints about mods, smods etc.
