If someone straight-out insults you, it doesent stop being an insult no matter what you think.Of course, its your choice how to take it, but if someone says "you are a fucking idiot" and you say "thanks man!" thinking he said something good about you, then indeed you are an idiot
i don't believe this becasue most people don't think when they act. they just do it because it pops into their head. they rarely have time to think about it. plus no one will really listen to that anyway
You can choose to ignore it and say, "wow, thank you"... than it won't bug you..

I decided to do that one day when I 12. The insults still stung but the insults ceased sooner. The cunts throwing verbal abuse toward me kinda then went:
"Eh? Wtf? I sed FUCK YOU! FUCKING LOSER!!"
"Thx man. Means a lot to me" *smile* I'd retort back.
"Eugh. Fuck it." & the chav would go look to annoy someone else.

EDIT: In the end I was just ignored. Not by the ppl saying shit to me, but the ppl who sucked up to their dicks aka everyone.

its not that it will stop an insult being what it is, its how u take it and ur emotional response to it
its like if it rains, you can see it as just rain and be indiferent.
you can be sad because its raining and ud like to go out but cant.
you can be happy becasue the water brings life.
you can get really ill and be sad about it or u can be happy its not worse.
you could be gohanssj and be sad about all ur psycological problems
or u could be hap... ahh wait bad example

Yes, actually it is. It is not an easy thing to do for the average person. If someone says something really bad and true about you, your natural reaction would be to get angry and try to make a comeback, or something similar, but next time, when that happens, say something good to them like "Thank you" or ignore them, it will be very different.
it is true, but in some cases, such as insults, it is not.. this one guy in my class kept bullying me... i chose to ignore him, and so i did, but what he said and did still had a big impact on me even after "i thought i could"
Just imagine if one day you became some millionaire and you see that bully on the street begging for money, now that would make you happy like you've never been before.

you made me knock over my drink i was laughing so much, As for rain, i prefer it to hot weather, Cold and Rainy all the way.
