As it seems the new 'official' RZ server is running into a few problems and it is not yet known as to when it will be launched, people are becoming restless (me being one of them). Therefore, I've decided to make this poll about what to do in the meantime.

I've started working on a Mir1.4 server which is quite basic and have thought of hosting it for something to do before the official server is completed. This makeshift server would have start level 22, high exp and decent enough chances of getting rares from bosses so people could lvl without pouring too much effort into it and also gather together a decent kit to start PK'in ;)

However, there are a couple of problems:

- I don't have any free webspace/bandwidth, so hosting the client or patches to add to the 1.4 client is impossible without help.

- We don't have any forum space, which imo is a necessity.

So, before I donate any more time to working on the server, I'd like to know what the people think about it, especially those on the current server team. Because if there's been a radical change in progress and the server's going to be ready within a week or so, there's hardly any point in me putting this server up.

Note: It would take me roughly 2 days to get the server completed, not too much to do. Could even squeeze it into a single day if I'm not doing anything else.

Hm..

Well, once again, your heart is in the right place. The problem is, I doubt many would play, and if they did, it would only be for a while anyway. Plus, as you noted, you don't have the webspace and no forum spot....

Only thing we can do is wait and see. I'm just not putting stock into it, tbh. Best not to at this point. Not to say I don't think it'll get done, but if it remains a two man team and they indeed go through with converting to 1.9, it'll take a while; that is, if they want to get it 100% through and through.

Last thing we need is the server to open and have even a mistake or two, and have it go down because of it...

It really just depends on how complete they want it to be when they release it. At the minimum, their at least going to want all the exp/drops/spawns to be correct, and make sure the npcs all work.. And then theres the cheats to worry about, I have no idea how far they are at that. I feel like I'm pressuring them sometimes, and sometimes people give up when they are pressured...

In my perfect world, the 1.4 server we put together was more than enough for fun :) Yes, it had it's bugs/stupid mistakes/etc. (they always will, no way you can be 100% IMO; btw, the files I put together were supposed to be tested first, and they weren't :P), but I had put together the new armors, weapons, items, most new maps, etc. More work was needed, but it didn't take a long time, just a lot of quick fixes... So, even a 1.4 server like I made (a very novice mir2 server creator, mind you) was good enough for me, because the community is honestly the only thing I care about...

I'm not sure about 1.9, as I've never bothered with the files in a test basis or private server player basis, so I have no idea how long it'll take them, and don't feel like asking because, again, I rather not make anyone mad ;)

i wont vote cuz this is rather confusing an a bit complicated... tbh i dunt think mir 1.9 will ever b on, from what i saw things r already goin bad an tis just the start... a good mir server doesnt take 1 week to get done as every1 knows... tbh u just gotta check lomcn advertisements, all servers there r crappy an go down as fast as ... as... well they just go down fast.
tbh i think 1.4 wud b the best, but wud still need lots of work 2, not to mention the problems hydra mentioned :)

Well I've always got euromir to retire to >_<

I hate working in teams on things like this lol. Don't like depending on others or others depending on me to get things done. It always takes longer imo and you'll get some who want to do a certain something and others who want to do something else. I like to get the opinions of the players first and if the majority want something to happen, I usually try my best to make that happen.

If we take a look at the most successful private server for a minute... ********* (was once taboo here I realise :P). This is run by someone who likes to call himself the 'One Man Team'; and that's exactly what he is. Scorpian gets things done efficiently by himself and has no-one to argue with other than himself. I know people have their opinions about him and most are negative here, but MentaL doesn't have the biggest fan following elsewhere either :P

We'll just have to wait and see how it turns out I suppose =/ but my offer is there :)

The problem is, there is no chance of a one man team :P I extend my hand because I know that I stand by my convictions and don't go head first into something I won't see through. Especially in this case, as I feel compelled to have one last stab at mir2. If this falls through, I think its time to give up :)

Like I said, I would be fine with 1.4 with some updates. RZ5/6 was awesome, everyone knows it. It's too bad that some people had to ruin it, because it was the best thing RZ had going for it, and Mir2 is the best thing RZ has EVER had going for it (imo).

Think about all the QUALITY members and posts you see here today, who are they predominately by? Ex-Mir2 players, the backbone of RZ, the true Ragezone. THAT is why I have always been one of the loudest voices for mir2 in the past couple years, why I made a server, and why I am writing this post.

I've been thinking a lot lately; and I have to really think about why I stay at Ragezone. Great community, yes, but I have also stayed for mir2, the hope of its REAL return. Well, a few quality people have left, some even recently, and this might be my last stand here as well if this doesn't work out. I've spammed the literal crap out of this place for nearly a year and a half... This last desperation for mir2, and possible death of mir2, may put the last nail in the coffin ;)

Ragezone has been a big part of my internet life since late 2003. Theres been good and bad days like anything else, but all in all, I've got more than enough out of it.

That's why I strive to give back, in this case, w/mir2.

Anyway, it's not up to me. Or you, unfortunately. We tried already :) For whatever reason, it wasn't to be. We did a great job, though, imo. Could've been really good. But, well, you know ;)

As for Uterror and thedeath.. Well, they are both very smart guys obviously. If anyone can get it done, it'll be them. Mental's not interested as he once was, and after that.. No one ;) So, it's really up to them now, I think. After that, I think, it'll be too late.

Only regret I have is not finding about this place sooner. But then again, before Mir2, I wasn't really into these kind of games. Something about it and the RZ community compelled me to be the spamming fool you read before you today...

All things have to end, though! Just was hoping for a better finale!!!

There were plenty of other problems before they could even start work on the actual server files m8. Firstly, the cheats needed to be taken care of. And as far as I'm aware, UTerror has done a good job with that. Then several things needed to be decided, an example being which file to use (1.4 or 1.9, or meld them together). After that, the client was buggy, and that's what he's been working on recently.

Then it's on to the actual server I believe... I hope :P

Ok heres what I got out of it.

Initially, uterror and thedeath were working on the security side of it, to make it so people couldn't cheat. Then, they purchased a nice computer and connection to host it. Originally, it seemed we were all going to help a bit on the files, but then evilevil came in and gave his db to thedeath.

Unfortunately, the db only messed things up. EvilEvil was taking too long to fix the problems (which made the files worse than what they started with), so thedeath/uterror decided to go their own route.

I believe now they are using rz5/6 files (the ones adeh/athena/sipher hosted with) and converting them to the 1.9 client, so that we still have all the new features. How hard that is and how long that'll take, I have no idea. But thats what I know, as of what I was last told.
