Sleep is just a state you go in to rest your body, if something would stop you from sleeping, then you can still rest it, although you probably want to do some sort of meditation to clear your mind and rest.
I wonder how long he would sleep if he did now.
I didnt think it was possible to survive without sleep that long, and i thought people with insomnia were tired despite not being able to sleep

the chinese did tests, where they shocked a guy to keep him awake for 22 days. on the 23rd day his brain shut down from exhaustion and he died.
Its impossible to stay awake for a year let alone 33. meditation included. There are people that can sleep with there eyes open.
After not sleeiping for 8 days, your personality changes, usualy making you angried and shortens your temper and self control PERMANENTLY.
After not sleeping for 2 months you become retarted.
After not sleeping for 6 months you die.
