    life skills

So today in my school assemply the principal was talking about life skills, and how some of us need to develop some.

He mainly spoke on "resillience" but went really off topic. it was really boring but it gave me an idea...

    what life skills do you;
    possess?
    would like to have?
wish u had when u were younger?

answer them all, or just one, its up to you.

I don't know many that i have, but i got good people skills, and i can cook etc. i have been told several times that having those will get you far in life.. but i dont know how far.

i'd like to have more confidence in life to be able to do more things.

Well, definately confidence, because i would have doen better in my younger years at school, and wouldn't make it such a hard thing now.

You like pushing that New Thread button brah? How long does it take for you to think of a topic? I hope it ranges somewhere under 20 second for a stupid random thread like that.

    Another "QUESTION" thread....
But well, as they've said, it doesn't violate any rules or so.

Seriously can't understand what people see is wrong with this thread... it involves pretty much everyone and anyone since it's based on each persons life, but trolls will be trolls. They'd rather threads about other peoples' lives than their own. Anyways:

I can cook, multi-task, and am great with my hands as far as trades go. I also possess sheet-metal fabrication and welding knowledge from previous jobs. One of the key things I wish I had when I was younger was the sense to actually full out dedicate myself to going to college. I had always looked at it as, "I can easily get a job in my trade, why should I bother with college?", not thinking that college would have helped me start my own sheet-metal/welding business.

multi tasking is a great ascet to have, especially work related, even more handy with welding, the focus aspect would be amazing.

you heard of master chef? well im to old to go on jr.master chef and not old enough for the seniour competitions. I really would like to have a shot, see how far i can go, i mean i've been cooking for 13 years.. started off small, childish things, now i go to my friends houses and prepare resteraunt-chef standered dishes, last night for my friend, Khloee, i cooked for her family and made a red-wine brazed steak, with the usual sides, lightly steamed vegis and mash, and for desert a sponge-cream-cake-sandwhich, with a lemon merange on top. delicious :P

so you are in the wielding buisness now? or just as a job?

No, I'm not in the welding business anymore due to immigration. The last job I had regarding welding and sheet-metal fabrication was Electric Boat @ Quonset Point North Kingstown, Rhode Island. I was part of the crew that christened and commissioned the U.S.S. Hawaii, a Virginia Class nuclear submarine. I'd love to get back into the trade, but must deal with immigration first, then take the classes here to "be up to Canadian standards".

    This ^

OT: life skills hmmmmmmmm.........cooking, cleaning, kyaking, boatmanship, a touch of archery, fighting, high learning speed, communication, computing, map/compass reading and navigation (there's a word for it but for the life of me I can't remember what it is XD), knot tieing, a dash of mountain climbing, a sprinkle of swimming, gun use, basic survival and capture evasion, speechcraft, decision making, emotion control, anti-panic and a few others that I can't think of from top of my head.

Life skills are bullshit tbh, well the term is. A life skill is supposed to be something that allows you to deal with situations that occur during life either on a day to day basis or in extreme circumstances, with this in consideration every single skill and piece of knowledge you gain can be put on a list of life skills because they can be used to deal with the situations that they match up with.

If you want knew life skills then you have to live life and learn new things as you go. Fortune cookie wisdom aside I wouldn't worry to much about it as long as you keep the basic thought in your head that there isn't anything stopping you from learning what you want, if you want to learn to cook then get some recipes and practice, if you want to be more confident then lie to yourself and pretend to be confident because most people will see what they want and that will be the confidence you show which in turn will raise your actual confidence via the changes in interaction with said people.

Then again even with a varied amount of skills and experience sods law dictates that if there's a situation that you can't fix with what you know and can do then it will happen to you.

    re: life skills

Hmm, life skills... Well, I'm good with people, sadly very good at manipulating people, Im a certified advanced diver but dunno if that counts lol, otyerwise I know basig sailing etc from attending x years of sailing scouts when younger lol. But the life skill that I use every day is one that I use to scout people for my company, Im pretty damn good at spotting potential and finding skilled people to accomplish tasks i need done, Im also pretty good at programming in several languages xD.

But I have to agree with what flameingskull said though. And regarding confidence u just gotta fake it at first then it will become natural :)

    re: life skills

Great points guys, I agree that life skills is just another name for the things you pick up actually experiencing things in life. As skills they can be worked on and improved!

I'd say I have pretty good "people skills", I've been able to talk myself out of a fight since very young, get what I desire from others and I also try to make people comfortable around me.

Self confidence can't be over rated though, the fastest way to shoot yourself in the foot is to think you are less able than you are.

Justei, that's pretty cool you're a head hunter, what does your company do?

    Exclamatio:
Well, I own the company so I do it as I am the one with most authority to do so ^^ but we develop software and websites mostly, I do backend coding on websites while my designers and frontend coders do that (im not the only backend) and we also develop video games but we just started doing that around a little less than a year ago so we only have some small prototype games but we are in the progress of starting a bigger game project with a new graphics engine and physics engine ^^.

That takes some manpower so Im headhunting the best people around for the best deals and so far ive gotten only VERY good people so Im happy ^^.

    Re: life skills

I have quite a few skills, but I also lack quite a few.

I'm pretty good with cooking and musical instruments, coding as well I guess.
I just lack the motiviation to do much, I've always been fine with "Just getting by" so long as I have an instrument to make music, someone to play music for/to talk to. And a roof over my head, food to cook and share. I am perfectly fine for the rest of my life.

Do wish I disciplined myself into caring more, when I was younger now I'm used to my life of "meh, w/e" Also wish I could sing haha but thats just an odd random wish.

Hmm.. My life skills. To keep it broad, I am a very focused person. I prefer to accomplish tasks sooner rather than later, which is something I always do. (As in I don't tend to procrastinate.) I've been described by other people as polite, confident, and easy to work with. I've been told I have good leadership skills. I'm also able to learn quickly.
