They don't want to be like that. Society forces them to be like that. Society influences everyone, and everything a person does is usually influenced by society. That's why armies of emo's exist. Some groups are full of emos and that would seem socially acceptable to you so naturally you wouldn't want to feel alienated so you will start acting/dressing like them.
