    Mars Rover 'Curiosity' Successfully Lands!!

On August 6th a 'Car-Sized' Mars Rover that was launched into space 8 months ago successfully completed its 150 Million Mile+ journey and landed on Mars plummeting into the Atmosphere at 13,000+ MPH! Using vigorously tested Parachutes and Jets on the bottom of the Rover they were able to slow it down during entry to ensure a safe landing. This is quite an amazing feat. and will not only bring forth a lot of new vital information but be remembered as a great moment in history.

    Anyway here are a few links where you can read up a little more on this;

Not only will Scientists be able to study the Land now and look for signs of previous life be it micro-organisms or a fully thriving civilization but this will also give us unprecedented panoramic and stationary photos of Mars that we've never seen!

Depends how headstrong you are, the company you keep and the amount communication you can keep back home. I personally think I could but be a long while before we will be at the stage.

Be interesting to see what they find out out there. ^^

    I'd totally go.

2 years, and become probably the most famous person on the planet. Who on the planet hasn't heard of Neil Armstrong? Granted the other ones aren't as well know, but that's beside the point.

Not sure I'd care about returning after too. I think that is the next step, get enough tech on the planet that people can live there for the rest of their lives, then just let people choose to move there. It is FAR harder to bring things back then getting stuff there.

The case with Mars One is that you have no such option as of returning back on Earth if you go there, but still in my opinion a lot of people are ready to leave this crappy society we are into just to do something with their lives.
Good that it landed with no (serious) issues, would be a pity to see a $2.5B+ budget machine get wasted.

Yeah including I have tons of DVD's (Blu ray I say, BLU RAY!), at least weekly calls to my family (Video calls) I would happily do it if it was safe, on the return flight all I will be thinking of is fame, I would definitely do it if I had other people there with me lol.

Give me a good supply of food, ganja, lsd and a working generator, and I'd be up for it. The ultimate adventure. Terrifying? Sure.

Edit: I'll need lots of good porn too. heh.

Hope to god this brings some useful evidence to NASA since they've been preparing this for such a long time.

All I can think about is how funny that would be in a 0 gravity situation. Hope you use a 'sock' or something lol.

I hope so too. Imagine to pull this off successfully everything had to work. I bet they couldn't fully test everything either. I guess what really impresses me about the situation is not just that every mechanism worked, but all the programming to get it to work properly. Because the whole thing is kind of useless if they can't control it.

If they can do this kind of stuff now, it's scary to see what they will be able to do in the future.

If any at all, that is. I'm very interested in that aspect, as I'm sure we all are. I wonder what kind of microbiological life forms we might encounter and what kind of resources this new planet holds for us.. It's so exciting to think that all this is happening within our lifespan.

I am kinda sad I wont be around for Star Wars, tho..

    Edit:

    It has started.
