I think it falls like that because the majority of brainiacs out there are socially inept. Therefore, they become angry and frustrated with the world and the people in it, as they drift by unnoticed. This drives them to listen to heavy metal tunes with angry lyrics, get facial piercings, dye their hair stupid colours and walk around in long black coats in a desperate attempt to gain their peers' attention. :P
I listen to almost nothing but Rap, RnB, Hip/Hop and I'm not doing too bad for myself :P
Load'a bullcrap Hydra.. I'm not angry with the world, not frustrated in the least, but I still love metal.. This topic won't get anywhere with generalisations you know..

Huh, I absolutely hate heavy metal and I know what 2+2 is.

They're just trying to make a point. People that listen to heavy metal aren't necessarily stupid, they're just people with problems in their life that think listening to heavy metal will rid them of their day to day anguish and turmoil.
I prefer dealing with the problem then listening to some Jazz. Mmmmmmm...smooth Jazz. The music of Love.

Kidding..but I do like Jazz. And I really don't like Heavy Metal at all. To me it is more annoying than Rap. And you can't spell "crap" without Rap. Heavy Metal(again to me) doesn't really have a point. They scream about their problems, life, death...etc. and the song gets no where. Then the end comes and I take my hands off of my ears.
This was not meant to be offensive to anyone that likes Heavy Metal...I just think that it's crap.
Now Justin Timberlake......
Edit: Oh, I thought I should add that Heavy Metal punks that meet me usually end up being my friend. Oddly enough they turn out to be interesting and intellectually adept people that you can actually talk to without having to dumb down your words.
They usually know what's going on in the world and have their own opinion on the subject without that opinion being tampered by things like the News.
And they usually don't like Justin Timberlake.
I know, I know, the ":P" was meant to indicate it as being a joke. To be honest, I think most people's musical taste is born out from who they interact with and which social group they belong to and has little or no bearing on intelligence.
For instance, I come from a particularly 'chavy' area and went to a state school where many yobs were in attendance. Their taste in music was generally geared toward rap, rnb and hip/hop, and so that's what I was exposed to. Just to note that all these people into 'chav-like' music scored across the board in exams - ranging from top of the school to not managing to gain 5 A*-C grades at GCSE.

Derr meh smart? Sure why not anything is possible lol. At my school we have a special program called IB <International Baccalaureate Organization> and I'm in it lol, but uhh... that doesn't make me smart lol. I'm ranked like 80 in my school but the people that are in the program with me are ranked 1-15 lol or top 10%
But none of them listen to metal, I don't think. They all listen to Rap lol

yea Fort Minor! anyway yea seriosuly all rap isn't crap. thats like me saying all metal is crap. i amy not like all of it but i acknowledge some of it is good. Its the artists not the music style. Anyway i doubt metal really makes you smarter. Just the majority of smart students enjoy metal.But noone ever said you were smart.
