Yeah, it seems Ex would be the man to see about martial arts. I don't have a clue :D

It would be quality to possess the skills and knowledge of a martial art though, I say if you want to do it, research the different disciplines and choose one which you think suits yourself and then learn it. Good luck with it m8 :good:

If you want to learn it then why not? I'd recommend starting out slow and trying not to hurt yourself. >.< There have been way too many people getting hurt and such recently.

Just take on whichever is the most practical for you in terms of distance, cost etc. Later on you'll find out which qualities to look into and find your own thing. The atmosphere is a very important thing too, some clubs are so army-like it gives me the creeps, and others are more relaxed. I like my current art, there's some discipline (the whole system wouldn't work if there wasn't any, anyway), but it's quite relaxed with some (quiet) discussion allowed, background music and all... I would prefer it to have more "cool" moves, as I'm not as much into brawling as the finess and artistic side of the sport, but it's not too bad. Pro's overcome the cons, and I have tried 3 different arts/styles before this one.

Anyway, take on that kung fu if it's easy to start it. Who knows, maybe it's your dream sport and you never have to switch.

Just do what u want, but it depends what kind you're practicing it, there are looooadds of styles.
    I'm practicing wushu ( kung fu ) , videos @ www.wushucentral.com . You might want to participate a competition ^____^
And be careful, you get injured easily when you're not paying attention or not doing things right. ( high acrobatic kicking )

aye minas pretty much said exactly what i was gonna :)

its quite hard to say "oh do this art" or "this may be the best for you" because veryone is different and every club is differnet

your gym will be totally different to the next even if they are teaching the same style

getting started is the most important step, when you have been training longer you can make educated choices on whether to stay or to move onto a different system etc

make sure you can get there easily you dont want to be travelling too far all the time. having a friend who is already there will be great because you wont feel so alone to start with as u get to know everyone

just wondering, what are your reasons for starting?

martial arts is a great choice

unlike going to the gym its much easier to be proud of what ur doing cos ur learning new things all the time developing a skill rather than just getting fit or whatever

And if you stop going to the gym you'll be back to the old pencilneck in a year, but what skills you learn into spine will stay there for decades and should you take a break from it you can always pick up from where you left later on.

Most importantly (if gym and martial arts are even comparable), gyms are damn boring. I've maybe gone to gym 10 times during all my life and everytime got bored in 10 mins. Never got bored within the 1.5 - 2 hours of martial arts practice so far.

When I first started like 5 years ago I thought I was going to learn some pretty skills, but I got a whole lotta more than just that. Go for it dude ;). But beware, they tend to beat the crap out of newcomers on the first couple of classes. Prepare for blood and broken bones. Some never make it back alive. Many a man have fallen by my sword trying to prove they have what it takes to be a true warrior.:burn:
